Step-by-Step Guide

Let the engine cool completely.

Access the radiator cap.
If your XT250 has a radiator, remove any body panels if necessary. Place a thick rag or towel over the radiator cap to avoid splashes, and slowly open the cap to release any built-up pressure. -
Locate and remove the drain bolt.
Find the coolant drain bolt at the bottom of the engine or radiator. Place your drain pan underneath, then remove the bolt and allow coolant to drain completely. -
Flush the cooling system.
If there is residual coolant, use clean water to flush the system. Fill, drain, and repeat until the water runs clear.
Note: Do not use compressed air to clean the system unless recommended by Yamaha. -
Reinstall the drain bolt.
Fit the drain bolt back with its washer (replace if worn). Tighten firmly to the factory torque specification. Check your Yamaha manual for the correct torque values. -
Refill with new coolant.
Using a funnel, slowly refill with the correct coolant. Fill to the recommended level spec – don't overfill. -
Remove air pockets.
Squeeze the hoses gently and rock the bike slightly to help release trapped air. -
Reinstall radiator cap and check for leaks.
Start the bike and let it idle until warm. Check for leaks and monitor the coolant level as air works its way out. Top off as needed.
