Steps to Change Your Coolant

Let the bike cool completely.
Hot coolant can cause severe burns. Never attempt this service on a hot engine—wait until everything is cool to the touch. -
Remove the radiator cap.
Located on the left side of the bike, the cap relieves system pressure and allows coolant to drain smoothly. Use a rag to protect from any residual spray as a precaution. -
Place your drain pan under the water pump cover.
The KX65's drain bolt is on the lower edge of the water pump cover (right side of the engine). -
Remove the water pump drain bolt.
Use the 8mm socket to loosen and remove it. Old coolant will flow out quickly. Allow it to drain fully.
Note: The drain bolt's sealing washer should be inspected for damage–replace if necessary to prevent leaks. -
Flush the system (optional but recommended for best results).
Add a small amount of distilled water into the radiator, replace the cap, and briefly tip the bike side to side. Remove the drain bolt again to flush out old residue. -
Reinstall the drain bolt.
Tighten gently–do not overtighten. If using a torque wrench, go to the manufacturer's spec (typically about 7 Nm or 62 in-lb for similar models). -
Fill the radiator with fresh coolant.
Use a funnel for control. Fill until coolant is visible at the bottom of the filler neck, without air gaps. -
Bleed out trapped air.
With the bike upright, gently rock it left to right or squeeze the radiators. Add more coolant if the level drops.
On the KX65, there is no specific bleed screw, so ensure you fill slowly and check by squeezing hoses to release air bubbles. -
Replace the radiator cap securely.
Make sure the cap clicks into both detent positions for a tight seal. -
Cleanup.
Wipe up any spills. Dispose of the old coolant properly–never pour into drains or soil. -
Warm up and recheck.
Start the bike and let it idle. Watch for leaks and allow air bubbles to escape. Once cool, recheck the coolant level and top off if necessary.
