Step-by-Step Coolant Change for the 2013 KLR650

- Install the drain bolt (use a new washer if possible; torque appropriately to avoid leaks).
- Fill the radiator with pre-mixed coolant up to the base of the filler neck.
- Fill the reservoir tank up to the "Full" line.

- Start the engine and let it run until it reaches operating temperature. Watch for air bubbles escaping at the radiator.
- When the engine is hot and the thermostat cycles, coolant will begin to flow, expelling trapped air.
- The level in the reservoir may drop as the system purges, so shut the engine down, let it cool, and top up both the radiator and reservoir as needed.
- This bleed-and-top-up cycle may need to be repeated once or twice before air is fully expelled. Persistent air in the system can indicate deeper issues.
- Inspect System for Leaks: Carefully check around the drain bolt, radiator cap, and hoses for leaks. Wait until the engine is fully cool to recheck coolant levels.
- Reassemble Bodywork: Reinstall the reservoir tank cover using medium-strength threadlocker on mounting screws (recommended), and replace any body panels or skid plate you may have removed.
