- Phillips screwdriver
- Socket wrench with 8mm and 10mm sockets
- Drain pan
- New coolant (Kawasaki recommends a pre-mixed ethylene glycol-based coolant for aluminum engines)
- Funnel
- Clean rags
- Optional: filter water for flushing
- Gloves and eye protection
Steps to Change the Coolant

Preparation:
- Ensure the engine is cool before beginning—never remove the radiator cap from a hot engine.
- Place the motorcycle upright on a level surface, preferably using the side stand to minimize splashing.
- Remove the right side panel to access the overflow reservoir, using an 8mm socket.

Drain Old Coolant:
- Place a drain pan below the water pump area beneath the engine.
- Remove the radiator cap to vent the system.
- Locate and remove the coolant drain bolt on the water pump cover (typically a 10mm bolt). Allow coolant to fully drain into your pan. Remove the bolt from the bottom of the overflow reservoir and drain it as well.

Optional Flush (Recommended if coolant is very dirty):
- Reinstall the drain bolts and fill the system with clean, distilled or filtered water.
- Briefly run the engine to circulate, then repeat the draining process until water runs clear. Do not run the engine without liquid in the cooling system for more than a minute to avoid water pump damage.

Reinstall Drain Bolts:
- Replace all drain bolts and tighten them securely, ensuring seals are clean and undamaged.

Refill with New Coolant:
- Use a funnel to add new coolant to the radiator until filled to the neck.
- Fill the overflow reservoir to the "full" line.
- Replace and secure the radiator cap and the reservoir cap.

Bleed Air from the System:
- Start the engine and let it idle with the radiator cap off (if possible), watching for air bubbles to escape. Squeeze the radiator hoses gently to help release trapped air. As the level drops, top off coolant.
- Once bubbling stops and the level stabilizes, turn off the engine and reinstall the radiator cap.

Check for Leaks & Final Top-Off:
- Inspect around the drain bolts and all hoses for leaks. Let the engine cool, recheck the radiator and overflow levels, and add coolant if needed.

Reinstall the Side Panel:
- Reattach the right side panel using the 8mm socket.
