Changing the Coolant

  1. Let the bike cool completely. Never remove the radiator cap when hot–pressure can spray hot coolant.
  2. Locate the radiator cap and water pump drain bolt. The EC 300 radiator cap is generally on the left upper side. The drain bolt is on the water pump cover (right lower engine case), typically the lower-most bolt.
  3. Position the drain pan beneath the water pump area.
  4. Remove the radiator cap first to break vacuum and allow coolant to drain quicker.

  8. Reinstall the drain bolt securely. Do not overtighten–reference your service manual if unsure.
  9. Refill with fresh coolant. Using a funnel, slowly fill the left radiator until the coolant reaches the bottom of the filler neck. Allow bubbles to escape as you fill.
  10. "Burp" the system. Rock the bike and squeeze radiator hoses gently to help remove air pockets. Top off as needed.
  11. Reinstall the radiator cap. Wipe up any spills.
  12. Start the engine and let it run briefly. Watch the coolant level in the recovery tank (if equipped) or recheck radiator once cool. Add coolant if needed.
