Maintaining a proper cooling system is essential for the longevity and performance of your 2006 GAS GAS EC200. What You Need

  • Fresh motorcycle-compatible coolant (do not mix brands or types for best results)
  • Distilled water (if using concentrate, not needed for premix)
  • Rags or shop towels
  • Catch pan or container for old coolant
  • Basic hand tools (ratchet, sockets, screwdrivers)
  • Protective gloves

Step 1 – Preparation

  • Make sure the bike is cooled down completely. Never work on a hot engine, as the cooling system is pressurized and hot liquid can cause burns.
  • Place the bike on a stand or level surface for stability and access.

Step 2 – Access and Drain Old Coolant

  • Remove side panels and other plastics as needed to access the radiator cap and drain bolt.
  • Open the radiator cap to release any built-up pressure.
  • Locate the coolant drain bolt, typically found at the lowest point of the water pump cover.
  • Place your catch pan under the drain bolt and remove the bolt. Allow all coolant to fully drain out.

Step 4 – Reinstall Drain Bolt

  • Once drainage is complete, securely install the drain bolt and washer. Do not overtightenrefer to your service manual for the proper torque specification for the EC200.

Step 5 – Add New Coolant

  • If your coolant is a concentrate, properly mix it with distilled water as recommended (typically 50/50). Pre-mixed coolant can go straight in.
  • Slowly fill the radiator until the fluid reaches the filler neck. Do not fill too quickly—allow air to escape and prevent bubbles from forming.

Step 6 – 'Burp' the Radiator

  • To remove trapped air, start the engine with the radiator cap off and let it idle briefly.
  • Gently rock the bike side to side and blip the throttle. Watch for bubbles escaping.
  • Once bubbling stops and the coolant level settles, top off as needed and reinstall the radiator cap securely.

Step 7 – Check Coolant Level & Leak Inspection

  • Double-check the coolant level after a short ride as levels may drop once more air escapes.
  • Inspect the drain bolt, hose clamps, and radiator for any sign of leakage.

  • The EC200's two-stroke engine is more sensitive to overheating than many four-strokes, so coolant condition is especially critical.
  • Always use the recommended coolant and mixture ratio for your GAS GAS. Avoid tap water, as minerals can accumulate in the radiator and cause internal blockages.
  • If you regularly ride in muddy or sandy conditions, check your radiators for debris after each ride to ensure proper airflow.
