Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Ensure the engine is cool.
    The pressurized coolant system stores heat—wait at least 30 minutes after riding to begin work. 
  2. Remove the seat & panels.
    Access the radiator by taking off the seat and right side panel using the proper tool. 
  3. Locate the radiator cap and drain bolt.
    The radiator cap is at the top of the left radiator; the drain bolt is generally found on the water pump cover (right engine side).
  4. Position the drain pan and remove the drain bolt.
    Place your pan beneath the water pump and unscrew the drain bolt or remove the lower radiator hose. Let all coolant drain out thoroughly.
  5. Flush the system (optional but recommended).
    For best results, flush with distilled water. If you are changing coolant types (e.g., from clear factory fluid to green anti-freeze), thoroughly flush with water and compressed air to ensure full removal of the previous coolant. 
  6. Replace drain bolt and inspect sealing washers.

  7. Refill with coolant.

  8. Bleed any remaining air.
    Squeeze the radiator and coolant hoses while the system fills. Run the engine briefly, then shut it off and top coolant to just below the cap base.
  9. Reinstall the radiator cap securely.
  10. Reattach plastics & seat.
