Step-by-Step Coolant Change Guide

  1. Allow the Engine to Cool
    Ensure your dirt bike is completely cooled down before beginning. Hot coolant can cause severe burns.
  2. Position the Bike
    Stand the 200SX upright on a level surface. Secure it using a stand to prevent tipping.
  3. Remove the Radiator Cap
    Locate the radiator cap (on top of the left radiator). Slowly and carefully twist it counterclockwise to release any built-up pressure.
  4. Locate the Coolant Drain Bolt
    On the lower part of the water pump cover (right side engine case), find the coolant drain bolt. Place your drain pan beneath the drain area.
  5. Drain the Old Coolant
    Use the appropriate wrench to remove the drain bolt and let the old coolant fully drain out.
    To speed up draining, having the radiator cap off allows air entryhelping coolant flow from both radiators.
    Once drained, inspect the bolt and its sealing washer (replace if damaged), then reinstall and tighten the bolt to the manufacturer specification (typically around 10 Nm or 7.4 lbf ft).
  6. Flush if Needed
    If the old coolant is very dirty or contaminated, flush with distilled water. Add a small amount, reinstall the drain bolt, run briefly (do not overheat), then drain again.
  7. Refill with New Coolant
    Slowly pour new coolant into the radiator neck until the fluid just covers the inner fins.
  8. Bleed Air from the System
    Gently rock the bike side to side and slowly squeeze radiator hoses by hand to help air escape.
    Some models have a small bleeder screw near the cylinder or thermostatif equipped, open it until coolant runs out, then retighten.
  9. Top Off and Reinstall Cap
    Add coolant as needed to bring the level back up, then securely reinstall the radiator cap.
  10. Start the Engine and Check the Level
    Run the engine at idle for a few minutes. Shut off and allow to cool, then recheck coolant level and top off if necessary.
