Follow the lower radiator hose to the water pump area. Use a socket wrench to remove the coolant drain bolt at the bottom of the water pump or engine case. Let all old coolant drain thoroughly into your pan.
Note: The RMX250, like the RM series, does not feature a dedicated radiator drain, so draining is through the water pump or bottom engine case bolt.
- Flush the System (Recommended): Pour distilled water through the radiator to flush out any leftover debris or old coolant. Allow to drain fully.
- Clean and Replace the Drain Bolt: Install a new gasket washer if needed and tighten the bolt to approximately 8–11 N·m (about 6–8 ft·lb). Ensure a snug, leak-free fit.
- Refill with Coolant: Using a funnel, fill the radiator with fresh coolant up to the base of the filler neck. The RMX250’s coolant capacity is just under 1 liter (about 950 ml).
- Bleed Air from the System: Gently rock the bike side to side to help release any trapped air bubbles. Some models also have an air bleeder bolt near the thermostat – loosen momentarily if equipped, then retighten.
- Check and Top Off: After filling, replace the radiator cap securely. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes, then shut off and let cool. Recheck the coolant level and top off if necessary.
