Step-by-Step Coolant Change Procedure
- Ensure the engine is cool: Never open the radiator cap on a hot engine as pressurized hot coolant can cause burns – always let the bike cool down completely.
- Remove the plastic skid plate: If equipped, this exposes the cooling system drain bolt for easier access.

Locate and remove the water pump drain bolt:
Find this 8mm bolt at the bottom of the water pump housing (usually left side of engine). Position your drain pan underneath.
Tip: The RMX250 uses a somewhat compact engine case, so clearance may be tight. Use care to avoid stripping the bolt. - Open the radiator cap: With the drain bolt removed, this lets coolant flow out faster and fully from the radiators and engine passages.
- Flush the system (recommended): Pour distilled water into the radiator – allow it to drain until clear. This flushes old coolant and debris. Avoid tap water, as minerals can scale inside the cooling passages and reduce efficiency.
- Reinstall drain bolt: After flushing, reinstall the drain bolt & tighten securely. If the washer/gasket shows wear, replace it to prevent leaks.

Refill with fresh coolant:
Using a funnel, pour new Suzuki-approved premixed coolant slowly into the radiator until the level touches the base of the filler neck. The RMX250 capacity is approximately 950 ml.
