This MotoSport proprietary guide walks you through safely flushing, replacing, and bleeding the hydraulic brakes on a 2022 Can-Am Renegade 570. Follow every step carefully, use the correct fluid, and keep the work area clean. This article also highlights model-specific notes every Renegade 570 owner should know.
Model-specific notes for the 2022 Can-Am Renegade 570
- The Renegade 570 uses hydraulic disc brakes front and rear with a handlebar master cylinder for the front and a rear master cylinder near the foot brake. Confirm DOT rating in your owner's manual; Can-Am commonly specifies DOT 4, but always verify before adding fluid.
- Caliper and master cylinder layout: dual front calipers, single rear caliper. The front master/reservoir is near the right handlebar; the rear master/reservoir is mounted near the brake pedal assembly.
- There is no factory ABS on base Renegade 570 models, so bleeding is conventional. If your machine has aftermarket components or integrated electronic systems, consult MotoSport tech before proceeding.
- Brake fluid is hygroscopic. On a 2022 unit, replace fluid if discolored, contaminated, or if it's been more than two years.
Tools & supplies
- Correct brake fluid (DOT 4 unless your manual specifies otherwise)
- Clear 3-4 mm vinyl hose and a catch bottle
- Assistant to operate lever/pedal (or a vacuum/pressure bleeder)
- Wrenches for bleed nipples (commonly 8 mm or 10 mm)
- Bleed block or clean wooden shim to prevent pads from closing
- Shop rags, gloves, eye protection
- Brake cleaner and a torque wrench (for caliper/bleeder hardware if you remove components)
Safety precautions
- Work on a level surface with the vehicle stable and the parking brake engaged (chock wheels if needed).
- Avoid spilling brake fluid on painted surfacesfluid will damage paint. Rinse immediately with water and clean with appropriate cleaner.
- Never mix different DOT-rated fluids unless allowed by the manufacturer. Don't reuse old fluid.
Preparation
- Warm the brakes with a short ride to help fluid flow (do not overheat).
- Park and secure the ATV. Remove wheel(s) if needed for better caliper access.
- Clean around reservoirs and bleed nipples to prevent contamination entering the system.
- Remove reservoir caps and diaphragms. Keep the caps loosely on the workbench to limit contamination.
- Install a bleed block between brake pads to prevent pistons from over-traveling when the pedal/lever is depressed.
Bleeding order
General hydraulic principle: start bleeding at the caliper farthest from the master cylinder and finish with the closest. For the Renegade 570, a reliable sequence is:
- Right front
- Left front
- Rear
Adjust sequence if your reservoir/piping layout differs; always follow distance-from-master principle.
Bleeding procedure — manual (two-person)
- Fill the master cylinder reservoir with fresh DOT 4 fluid to the specified level. Keep the cap off but the reservoir covered to reduce contamination.
- Attach clear vinyl hose to the caliper bleed nipple and route into a catch bottle partially filled with fresh brake fluid to avoid drawing air into the line.
- Have your assistant slowly depress the brake lever/pedal to about 3/4 travel and hold it there.
- Open the bleed nipple a 1/4 turn. Fluid and air will flow into the hose. Close the nipple before the assistant releases the lever/pedal to avoid sucking air back in.
- Repeat pump-hold-open-close cycles until the fluid emerging is clear and free of bubbles, then tighten the nipple snugly.
- Top the reservoir frequently so it never runs low during the process.
- Repeat steps for next caliper following the bleed order. Finish with the caliper nearest the master cylinder.
Bleeding procedure — using a vacuum or pressure bleeder
- Connect your pressure bleeder to the reservoir or attach a vacuum hose to each bleed nipple as per tool instructions.
- Operate the tool until clear, bubble-free fluid flows and the brake lever/pedal has firm resistance.
- If using pressure on the reservoir, cycle each bleed nipple open until fluid runs clear, closing each before moving to the next.
Verification & finishing steps
- Ensure all bleed nipples are tightened to their specified snugness. If you removed calipers or fittings, torque fasteners to OEM specs from your manual.
- Top off reservoirs to the proper level, reinstall diaphragms and caps.
- Remove the bleed block and verify lever and pedal feel — they should be firm, with minimal travel. Soft spongy feel means residual air remains; repeat bleeding.
- Check for leaks at all connections under pressure and after a short test ride at low speed.
- Properly dispose of old brake fluid according to local regulations.
Troubleshooting
- Persistent spongy lever after bleeding: re-bleed, check master cylinder for internal leaks, inspect flexible hoses for deterioration.
- Continuous loss of fluid or drop in lever: find and repair leaks in lines, fittings, calipers, or master cylinder before riding.
- If calipers bind after bleeding: check piston movement, clean slides/pistons and lubricate per Can-Am guidance, or rebuild caliper seals if needed.
Break-in and post-service checks
- After replacing fluid and successful bleed, perform low-speed brake checks in a safe area to bed the system and confirm stopping performance.
- Recheck reservoir level and fasteners after the first short ride. Inspect for leaks again after a few rides.
- Document the service date and mileage for future maintenance intervals.
When in doubt, consult MotoSport service techs or refer to your Can-Am service manual for torque specs and OEM procedures tailored to the 2022 Renegade 570. Proper bleeding and fresh fluid restore safe brake performance and protect the hydraulic components from moisture-related damage.
