How to Bleed and Replace Brake Fluid on a 2018 Suzuki King Quad 750AXi 4X4

This MotoSport guide walks you through a complete brake fluid change and bleed on the 2018 Suzuki King Quad 750AXi 4X4 (MMY KINGQD750A). Steps are written for the stock hydraulic system with front dual discs and a rear single disc. If your ATV has factory or aftermarket ABS or hydraulic accessories, follow manufacturer instructions for those systems first.

What you need

  • Fresh DOT 4 brake fluid (Suzuki recommends DOT 4)
  • Clear plastic tubing that fits bleeder nipples
  • Brake bleeder bottle or catch jar
  • Wrenches for bleeder nuts (typically 8mm/10mm depending on caliper)
  • Phillips/flat screwdrivers, pliers
  • Turkey baster or syringe for reservoir fluid removal
  • Clean rags, gloves, safety glasses
  • Jack or ramps and stands to lift wheels (if needed)
  • Brake parts cleaner & disposal container for used fluid

Safety & prep

  • Work on a level surface with the engine off and ignition key removed.
  • Avoid getting brake fluid on painted plastics or metal; it damages finishes. Wipe spills immediately.
  • Brake fluid is hygroscopic — store unopened bottles sealed and discard fluid if contaminated.
  • Wear gloves & eye protection. Properly dispose of old fluid per local regulations.

Identify components

  • Brake master cylinder and reservoir are located near the handlebars. Reservoir cap will have a diaphragm under it.
  • Front brakes: left and right calipers with bleeder screws on each caliper.
  • Rear brake: single caliper with bleeder screw.

Full fluid replacement & bleed procedure

Recommendation: Replace reservoir fluid first by siphoning old fluid, then perform a full system bleed starting with the caliper furthest from the master cylinder and moving to the nearest. On this King Quad that order is usually: right front → left front → rear. Confirm routing on your unit before starting.

  1. Remove the reservoir cap and diaphragm. Use a turkey baster or syringe to remove as much old fluid as possible from the reservoir. Wipe the reservoir clean with a lint-free cloth.
  2. Refill the reservoir with fresh DOT 4 brake fluid to the fill line. Keep the cap off while bleeding but prevent dirt from entering.
  3. Raise the ATV so wheels can turn if needed. Support securely with stands.
  4. Start at the caliper farthest from the master cylinder (usually right front). Fit clear tubing over the bleeder nipple and place the other end into a catch bottle partially filled with clean brake fluid to avoid drawing air back into the system.
  5. Have an assistant slowly squeeze the brake lever/pedal 3-5 times and hold pressure. While held, open the bleeder nut about 1/4 turn to let fluid and air escape; close the nut before the assistant releases the lever/pedal. Repeat until clear, bubble-free fluid comes out.
  6. After each cycle, top the reservoir so fluid never falls below the minimum level. If the level drops too low, air will enter the master cylinder and you must start bleeding again from closest caliper to master to purge that air.
  7. When the right front is clear, move to left front and repeat the same bleed cycles.
  8. Finish with the rear caliper using the same method. Some rear lines are routed differently; if your rear line is shorter/closer to the master, expect less air and fewer cycles.
  9. Once all calipers are clear and the brake lever/pedal feels firm and consistent, tighten all bleeder nuts to spec snugness (hand tight then a small fraction with a wrench — do not over-torque). Wipe all fittings clean.
  10. Top the reservoir to the proper level, re-install the diaphragm and cap, and secure the cap fasteners.
  11. Operate the brakes slowly at low speed in a safe area to bed the system and confirm firm brake response before regular riding.

Alternative: One-person vacuum or pressure bleed

If you prefer a solo method, use a vacuum bleeder on each bleeder nipple or a pressure bleeder on the reservoir. Vacuum bleeder: attach vacuum hose to bleeder nipple, open nipple, pump vacuum until fluid runs clear. Pressure bleeder: pressurize reservoir per tool instructions and open bleeder nipples in the same far-to-near order. Both reduce the need for an assistant but follow tool safety guidelines.

Notes specific to the 2018 Suzuki King Quad 750AXi 4X4

  • Factory setup uses DOT 4 brake fluid; switching to DOT 4 from DOT 3 is acceptable if system is dry — never mix DOT 5 silicone. Always use a fresh sealed bottle.
  • 2018 King Quad front uses dual discs and a shared master circuit. Bleed both front calipers thoroughly and keep reservoir level steady to prevent master cylinder cavitation.
  • Some King Quad models have an integrated parking brake on the rear; ensure parking brake cables are not engaged while bleeding the rear caliper.
  • If your ATV shows a spongy lever after bleeding, check soft lines for swelling or leaks. Replace any hose older than 5-7 years or showing cracking; MotoSport stocks OEM-style replacement hoses for this MMY code.
  • Inspect caliper pistons and pads for uneven wear or corrosion while calipers are exposed. Replace pads in matched sets and lubricate sliding pins with high-temp caliper grease only where specified.
  • If you have aftermarket master cylinder, braided lines, or ABS, bleeding order and procedures can differ — follow the system manufacturer or contact MotoSport support for parts and guidance.

Torque & hardware checks

  • Bleeder nipple threads should be clean and undamaged. Replace seized or rounded nipples.
  • Caliper mounting bolts, banjo bolts, and hose fittings should be checked for proper tightness and replaced if corroded or leaking. Refer to Suzuki torque specs in the service manual for exact values when available.

Post-service checks

  • Confirm there are no leaks at banjo bolts, bleeder nipples, or hose ends.
  • Test ride slowly to verify braking performance, then re-check fluid level and hose/coupling condition after initial ride.
  • Record the service date and mileage; replace brake fluid every 1-2 years or sooner if contaminated or if vehicle operates in severe conditions.
