Bleeding the Brakes on a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja H2 Carbon

Shop parts for a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja H2 Carbon Motorcycle.

The 2024 Kawasaki Ninja H2 Carbon is a supercharged hyperbike with twin radial-mount front calipers, a rear disc, and cornering-aware ABS. The front calipers are fed by a radial master cylinder and reservoir on the right handlebar, and the rear caliper has its own master cylinder and reservoir worked by the foot pedal. On a machine with this much performance, fresh fluid and a firm lever matter, and the ABS means you need to work carefully.

Why Bleed the Brakes?

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, lowering its boiling point. Stopping a bike this fast creates serious heat, and old fluid can boil and form vapor that compresses, causing a soft lever and fade. Moisture also corrodes pistons and internal ABS parts.

  • The lever engagement point has moved
  • The lever feels softer after hard braking
  • Fluid has darkened in the reservoirs
  • After a track day or pad change

Tools and Supplies

  • Fresh brake fluid of the type marked on the master cylinder reservoir cap, from a sealed container
  • A box-end wrench that fits the bleeder valves
  • Clear tubing that seals tightly on the bleeder
  • A catch bottle
  • A syringe or turkey baster
  • A screwdriver or driver for the reservoir caps
  • Plenty of soft rags and water

Protect the Bike

Brake fluid can damage the paint, carbon bodywork, and clear coat quickly. Put the bike securely on front and rear stands, level the front reservoir by turning the bars, and cover everything nearby with rags. Keep water ready to rinse any drip immediately, and clean the reservoir caps before opening them.

Bleeding Steps

  1. Remove the front reservoir cap and diaphragm.
  2. Draw out most of the old fluid without letting the reservoir run dry.
  3. Refill with fresh fluid.
  4. Attach the clear tube to the bleeder of the front caliper farthest from the master cylinder and place the free end in the catch bottle.
  5. Squeeze and hold the lever.
  6. Open the bleeder about a quarter turn.
  7. Close the bleeder before releasing the lever.
  8. Repeat, topping off every few strokes.
  9. When clean, bubble-free fluid flows, close the bleeder.
  10. Bleed the second front caliper the same way.
  11. Bleed the rear caliper using the foot pedal and rear reservoir.

A Note on ABS

Running a reservoir low is the mistake to avoid. Air drawn into a master cylinder can reach the ABS hydraulic unit, and a standard caliper bleed may not push it out. Watch the levels after every few strokes.

Inspect While You’re In There

Check pad thickness, look at the discs for wear or heat discoloration, and inspect the brake lines and fittings for seepage. On a bike like this, it’s worth catching any wear early.

Final Checks

Tighten the bleeders snugly, fill both reservoirs to their correct level marks, and reinstall the diaphragms and caps. Clean all surfaces, check for leaks, and dispose of the old fluid properly. The lever and pedal should be firm and should not sink. Spin both wheels to check for drag, confirm no warning lights are on, and test at low speed in a safe area.

When to Visit the Dealer

If a reservoir ran dry, the ABS unit or lines were opened, or the brakes won’t firm up, the system may require a dealer-level procedure or diagnostic tool.
