The 2023 GAS GAS MC450F features a high-performance, two-layer foam air filter designed to maximize airflow and safeguard the engine from even the finest dust and sand. Routine maintenance of your air filter is crucial for maintaining throttle response, power output, and engine longevity–especially under motocross conditions unique to this cutting-edge model.
Essential Tools & Supplies
- Clean, lint-free rags
- Quality air filter cleaner or mild soap
- Fresh air filter oil (foam filter-specific)
- Nitrile gloves
- Replacement filter (if needed; Twin Air Air Filter recommended for 2016-2023 GAS GAS MC models)
Removing the Air Filter
- Turn off the bike and let it cool completely for safety.
- Remove the seat. This is a quick-release process—press the rear seat latch with moderate pressure and lift the seat upward.
- Unclip and remove the air filter box cover, exposing the air filter.
- Gently pull the air filter frame outward from the airbox, taking care not to knock dirt into the intake. Note how the filter is seated for correct reinstallation.
Cleaning the Air Filter
- Carefully detach the filter from its cage. Check for tears, stiffness, or excessive wear–if any are found, replace it.
- Massage the filter in cleaning solution or warm, soapy water. Squeeze (do not wring) until dirt and old oil are gone. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Allow to air dry completely, away from direct sunlight and heat sources which can damage the foam.
- Inspect the filter cage and airbox, wiping away any dirt, debris, or old oil to ensure a perfect seal and maximum airflow.
Oiling & Reinstalling the Air Filter
- Once dry, apply fresh foam filter oil evenly. Massage the oil throughout, ensuring no dry spots remain. Too much oil restricts airflow, too little allows dirt ingress.
- Reattach the filter to its cage, ensuring proper alignment with all edges matched up to the cage geometry.
- Insert the filter and cage assembly back into the airbox, checking for a snug, gap-free fit to prevent unfiltered air from entering the engine.
- Refit the air filter box cover and latch the seat securely.
When to Replace the Air Filter
- If the filter is torn, excessively dirty, deformed, or has lost elasticity
- After every major riding day in sandy, dusty, or wet conditions
- As part of your regular pre-race or monthly maintenance schedule
2023 GAS GAS MC450F – Special Notes
- The MC450F shares its platform and filter design with KTM and Husqvarna motocross bikes from 2016 onward, so filter replacements are widely compatible and easy to source.
- The open design of the airbox means filter condition is critical for preventing high debris ingress during aggressive racing or trail riding.
- Inspect airbox seals and cage regularly for damage or excess flex, as poor sealing will rapidly degrade engine performance and can void warranty coverage.
For any replacement needs or upgrades, MotoSport offers a complete selection of air filters and airbox components engineered specifically for the 2023 GAS GAS MC450F so you can keep your ride running at its highest level.
