In its second year on the redesigned chassis, the 2018 Beta 390 RR Race Edition benefits from a full production cycle of refinement. The 389cc liquid-cooled DOHC four-valve single with EFI and six-speed gearbox pairs with the validated chrome-moly steel frame, competition-tuned KYB fork, Sachs rear shock, ergal footpegs, and factory graphics. The frame’s load paths are proven through a year of competition use, and the 390’s balanced mid-displacement character continues to reward riders in cross-country and hare scramble formats. With the chassis sorted, attention shifts to maintaining the engine and drivetrain under sustained competition loading.

Dry vs. Wet Torque

Oil drain plug: always wet; reduce 15–20% with sealant. Competition oil change frequency accelerates drain plug wear. All other values assume dry threads.

Clutch & Drivetrain Under Race Loading

The 390 Race Edition’s clutch sees heavy use in competition. Frequent clutch-in launches, aggressive downshift blipping, and sustained slipping through technical sections load the clutch hub nut at 75 Nm. After any clutch basket or friction plate service, verify the hub nut torque. The 390’s mid-displacement torque loads the drivetrain hardware significantly — front sprocket bolt at 50 Nm and rear sprocket nuts at 30 Nm should be verified post-race alongside axle nuts.

Thread Locker Application

Medium-strength (blue) thread locker for the 2018 Beta 390 RR Race:

  • Rear sprocket nuts
  • All disc bolts
  • Linkage bolts
  • Subframe bolts
  • Exhaust header bolts
  • Skid plate bolts

Refresh every 10–15 hours of competition use.

Torque Wrench Selection

A 3/8-inch drive click-type for 20–100 Nm and a 1/4-inch drive for 10–12 Nm hardware. Two drive sizes for the validated 390cc Race Edition.
