Entering its second year of production, the 2016 Beta 390 RR Race Edition carries forward the 389cc liquid-cooled DOHC four-valve single with competition upgrades — race-tuned KYB suspension, ergal racing footpegs, factory livery, and a holeshot device. Refined fueling and detail improvements sharpen the mid-displacement Race Edition for competitive enduro. The 390’s extra displacement over the 350 provides a noticeable torque advantage in deep terrain, steep climbs, and sand sections where momentum preservation defines race results. The combination of mid-displacement torque and race-intensity use demands consistent fastener verification across the engine, chassis, and drivetrain.

Dry vs. Wet Torque

Oil drain plug: always wet; reduce 15–20% with sealant. Competition oil changes are frequent, making drain plug thread management critical. All other values assume dry threads.

Competition Valve Service

The 390 Race Edition’s DOHC four-valve head requires periodic valve clearance checks under competition use. Every valve service involves removing and reinstalling the valve cover (10 Nm) and potentially the cam sprocket bolts (12 Nm). Consistent application of these low-torque specs during frequent race-season service prevents the cumulative thread damage that comes from repeated removal and reinstallation. Clean threads, clean surfaces, and calibrated tools are essential every time.

Thread Locker Usage

Medium-strength (blue) thread locker for the 2016 Beta 390 RR Race:

  • Rear sprocket nuts
  • All disc bolts
  • Linkage bolts
  • Subframe bolts
  • Exhaust header bolts
  • Skid plate bolts

Refresh every 10–15 hours of competition use.

Torque Wrench Selection

A 3/8-inch drive click-type for 20–100 Nm and a 1/4-inch drive for 10–12 Nm hardware. Two drive sizes for the refined 390cc Race Edition.
