The 2011 Beta 400 RS SM is a dedicated supermoto built around the 398cc liquid-cooled DOHC four-valve single with EFI and five-speed gearbox. The 17-inch supermoto wheels with sticky road tires, supermoto-specific suspension tuning, and aggressive braking components transform the 400cc platform for mixed-surface competition. The 400’s generous displacement provides strong acceleration on pavement straights and the mid-range pulling power to manage dirt sections without constant shifting through the five-speed box. Supermoto riding generates the most extreme combination of forces any Beta encounters — hard pavement braking, aggressive cornering on grip tires, and abrupt surface transitions.

Dry vs. Wet Torque

Oil drain plug: always wet; reduce 15–20% with sealant. All other values assume dry threads.

400cc Supermoto Forces

The 400’s extra displacement over the 350 SM creates heavier drivetrain loads under acceleration and more aggressive weight transfers under braking. The 17-inch wheels with high-grip tires transmit pavement cornering forces directly into the chassis through the axle nuts and steering head. Post-session verification of brake hardware, axle nuts, and engine mounts should be standard practice for the 400cc supermoto platform.

Thread Locker Recommendations

Medium-strength (blue) thread locker for the 2011 Beta 400 RS SM:

  • Rear sprocket nuts
  • All disc bolts
  • Linkage bolts
  • Subframe bolts
  • Exhaust header bolts

Torque Wrench Selection

A 3/8-inch drive click-type for 20–100 Nm and a 1/4-inch drive for 10–12 Nm hardware. Two drive sizes for the 400cc supermoto.
