The 2008 Beta 400 RR carries the 398cc DOHC four-valve single into its fourth production year with continued refinements. Electronic fuel injection, five-speed gearbox, steel perimeter frame, Marzocchi fork, and Sachs rear shock provide the complete enduro package. The 2008 model benefits from accumulated development that improves fueling calibration and detail components. The 400’s generous displacement delivers the pulling power that experienced enduro riders value in demanding terrain — hillclimbs, deep sand, rocky creek beds, and tight switchbacks where momentum management defines the ride.

Dry vs. Wet Torque

Oil drain plug: always wet; reduce 15–20% with sealant. All other values assume dry threads.

Over-Torquing & Under-Torquing

The 400’s larger bore creates higher combustion pressures than smaller-displacement models. Over-torquing the 45 Nm head bolts risks bore distortion that affects ring seal and valve seating. Under-torquing allows the 400’s elevated pressures to breach the head gasket. Both conditions are more consequential on the 400’s larger bore than on smaller Beta engines. Consistent, accurate torque application is the difference between reliable performance and costly engine damage.

Thread Locker Usage

Medium-strength (blue) thread locker for the 2008 Beta 400 RR:

  • Rear sprocket nuts
  • All disc bolts
  • Linkage bolts
  • Subframe bolts
  • Exhaust header bolts
  • Skid plate bolts

Torque Wrench Selection

A 3/8-inch drive click-type for 20–100 Nm and a 1/4-inch drive for 10–12 Nm hardware. Two drive sizes for the refined 400cc enduro.
