Removal, Step by Step
Begin with the petcock turned to OFF, and wait a moment for the fuel already in the line to settle. Position your drain container underneath before going further, since a petcock with years of service can seep past its seat. Hardened hose tears rather than slipping free, and any rubber left welded to the fitting comes off with a fingernail or a plastic pick — keep screwdrivers away, since a scored barb never seals properly again. What Kills a Fuel Line

As for the fuel itself, vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor level where a water heater pilot or shop heater sits, so keep this outdoors or with the door wide open, no flames anywhere near, an extinguisher in reach, and a fully cooled engine before anything opens.
Fitting the New Hose
Slide both clamps onto the new line before either end touches a fitting. Dipping the ends in hot water for thirty seconds makes them supple enough to push onto the barbs cleanly. Seat each end fully against the shoulder of its barb, then set the clamps just behind the barb ridge where they squeeze against something solid instead of bare hose. Tighten firmly and stop short of cutting into the rubber, since an overtightened clamp starts a slow leak a season later. Never apply grease, oil, or assembly lubricant to a fuel fitting — it contaminates the fuel and lets the hose creep off the barb under heat. Trim the line so it hangs in a relaxed curve, free of kinks and with no tension pulling on either end.
Verifying No Leaks
Open the petcock and watch both connections for two full minutes under good light. Wipe them dry and check again for anything fresh. Spray soapy water at each joint, start the engine, and look for bubbles building at a barb. Shut down while the engine is warm and inspect one last time, because a marginal joint often only weeps at temperature. Finish by swinging the bars lock to lock to confirm nothing pinches or stretches, and the 2016 DS90X is ready to ride.
