Leatt made its name nearly 20 years ago with their first-of-its-kind neck brace many pros wear when riding track.
Since then, Leatt has pushed forward adding to its line of protective riding gear to include helmets, chest protection, riding gear and goggles. Their acclaimed Velocity 6.5 goggles represent the company's top-of-the-line eye protection for riding dirt bikes and ATVs which Leatt tests to a Military Ballistic Impact Standard, i.e. these goggles are bulletproof.
In fact, Leatt impact tests their entire line of goggles, including the 4.5 Velocity and 5.5 Velocity, to the military MIL-DTL-43511D standard. Designed to withstand the rigors of riding track and trails, each model line introduces more rider friendly and comfort features culminating with the Velocity 6.5 goggle. So how does it really measure up?
Ryan Forbes, a MotoSport employee and all-around rider of dirt bikes and ATVs, owns three pairs of Leatt Velocity 6.5 goggles allowing him to have the ability to quickly choose from a few different color options and lens tent colors depending on light quality. Forbes indeed is a fan of the Leatt Velocity 6.5 goggles with a primary user experience while riding dirt bikes on tracks and trails.
Never one to hold back, Forbes offered his take of the Leatt Velocity 6.5 goggles he wore riding a dirt bike on track and trails so anyone looking for a new pair or who wants a helmet-on throttle-rolled experience of the Leatt Velocity 6.5 goggles can get a tried and tested review.
Pros of the Velocity 6.5 Goggles
- Great field of view and very high-quality polycarbonate molded lens
- Wide strap with grip for easy placement on the helmet and stays put
The Velocity 6.5 goggle features a 50 mm anti-slip coated strap not available on the other Velocity models.
- Tons of availability as well as accessories and replacement parts. You can almost rebuild these goggles and Leatt is great to work with if you have any warranty or product issues
Cons of the Velocity 6.5 Goggles
- Large frame doesn't exactly fit all helmets. I've found if the nose guard is removed it fits much nicer in smaller port helmets.
The dual-density frame is a feature not available on the other Velocity models.
- The outer moisture layer of foam against the face could be a little better at moisture wicking but that's a small complaint.
The Leatt Velocity 6.5 goggles also come roll-off ready with an OTG (over the glasses) fit. Check out the full line of Velocity 6.5 goggles and all Leatt goggle models.
