If you have owned your 2021 Honda CRF250R more than a few seasons, the fuel line deserves a hard look. It is a wear item almost nobody thinks about until it fails, and the failure is rarely graceful. Replacing the hose costs a few dollars, and doing it early beats doing it trailside with a leaking tank.
Why the CRF250R Needs a Different Approach
This CRF250R came with fuel injection, so you are working on a pressurized circuit fed by a pump inside the tank. There is no shutoff valve, which is why line-clamping pliers move from optional to essential on a 2021 Honda CRF250R. Squeeze the hose closed upstream of the connection you plan to break and the tank stays put.
Why Rubber Fuel Hose Gives Up
Two things degrade a fuel line: time, and what sits inside it. - Swelling or a soft, mushy section. The opposite of hardening and just as bad — usually chemical attack.
- Surging or dying under load. Restricted flow mimics fuel starvation and gets misdiagnosed as a jetting problem.
Parts, Tools, and a Safe Workspace
Nothing here is exotic, but having it within reach before you open the fuel system keeps the job from turning messy.
- Replacement fuel line rated for injection pressure and sized for your 2021 Honda CRF250R. Low-pressure carburetor hose is not a substitute.
- Line-clamping pliers. With no petcock on the CRF250R, these are how you stop the tank siphoning while the line is open.
- New clamps or the correct quick-connect fitting, depending on your connections. Some injected models need no clamp at all.
- Nitrile gloves and eye protection. Pressurized fuel can spray when a connector releases.

One genuine safety note: gasoline vapor is heavier than air and travels along the floor toward anything that can ignite it. Work outdoors or with the door open, shut off any heater with a pilot light, keep the fuel container capped, and let a hot engine cool first.
Getting the Old Line Out of the Way
With no petcock on the 2021 Honda CRF250R, the shutoff is mechanical: clamp the fuel line closed with line-clamping pliers upstream of the fitting you plan to open. That isolates the tank and keeps it from siphoning once the connection is broken.
Relieve the pressure before separating anything. Let the bike cool, then wrap a rag around the fitting and release it slowly so residual pressure vents into the rag rather than across the engine. Keep your catch container underneath.
Release the fitting according to type. A quick-connect coupler has a tab, collar, or wire clip that must be depressed or slid back before it will separate; it comes apart with a squeeze and a straight pull, never with a screwdriver. Fitting the New Line
Match the new hose to the old for length and make sure it is rated for injection pressure. Standard low-pressure carburetor line will not survive on a fuel-injected 2021 Honda CRF250R. Cut both ends square so they seat cleanly.
Begin with the connection nearest the tank. A quick-connect fitting goes together with firm, straight pressure until you feel it lock, and the retaining clip should return to its seated position; tug on it afterward to confirm. No clamp is needed there. A conventional barb needs the hose pushed past the full raised section before a clamp goes over it.
Skip any lubricant on the fittings. Grease and oil compromise the seal and can foul a locking coupler, and neither belongs near the fuel path. Once both ends are joined, follow the line from tank to throttle body on the CRF250R, checking clearance from the exhaust and for any kink that would restrict flow.
Verifying the Repair
Release the line-clamping pliers and let the system pressurize. On an injected 2021 Honda CRF250R, cycling the ignition on for a few seconds runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit without starting the engine — do that, then inspect both joints closely. Pressure finds a marginal connection far faster than gravity.
Start the engine and check again warm. Watch quick-connect fittings especially: a coupler seated only partially can hold briefly and then let go, so confirm the lock is fully engaged and the joint is dry. Dampness means remaking the connection rather than tightening something never designed to be tightened.
A note for the CRF250R: the fuel filter on injected models is usually part of the in-tank pump assembly rather than an inline part on the visible hose, so there is nothing to change out on the line you just replaced. Dispose of drained fuel properly and reinspect after the first ride.
