Step-by-Step Oil Change Instructions

Warm up the engine.
Let the bike idle for a few minutes to warm the gearbox oil, which helps it drain more thoroughly. -
Stabilize the bike.
Place your Beta 250 RR on a sturdy stand so it is completely upright and level. -
Remove the skid plate (optional).
While not required, taking off the skid plate can help access the drain bolt and avoid a mess. On the 250 RR, this is usually a simple bolt removal task. -
Locate and remove the drain bolt.
Find the gearbox oil drain bolt on the lower side of the engine. Use a 13 mm socket or T-handle to remove. Tip: Loosen the filler cap before fully removing the drain bolt to allow oil to flow out smoothly. -
Drain the oil.
Let the used gearbox oil pour into your drain pan. Allow extra minutes for a complete drain. -
Clean and inspect the drain plug.
Wipe away metal debris from the magnetic drain bolt using a rag and contact cleaner. Check the O-ring for wear or damage; replace if needed. -
Reinstall the drain bolt.
Refit the drain bolt with its O-ring snugly. Avoid overtightening–secure, but don’t strip the threads. -
Add new gearbox oil.
Unscrew the oil filler cap. Pour in the recommended amount–the 2018 Beta 250 RR typically takes around 750 ml (check your manual). Do not overfill. -
Check oil level.
Use the sight glass on the clutch cover or the level bolt if equipped. The oil should sit at the midpoint of the glass or just begin to trickle from the check bolt when the bike is level. -
Wipe down and reassemble.
Wipe up any spills and reinstall the skid plate if you removed it. Replace the oil filler cap securely. -
Log your oil change.
For best tracking, note the engine hours since your last oil change in your maintenance journal. Aim for changes every 8-10 hours or after deep water crossings.
