  • Transmission oil: 10W-50 synthetic, 750 ml

Step-by-Step Oil Change

  1. Warm Up the Engine
    Run the engine for 2–3 minutes. Warm oil drains faster and carries particles away more effectively.
  2. Remove Skid Plate
    Using an 8 mm socket, take off the skid plate to access the drain bolts and filter covers.
  3. Drain the Engine Oil
    Locate the engine oil drain bolt (13 mm), usually positioned at the bottom of the crankcase. Remove it and let the oil drain completely into your catch pan.

    Start the bike and let it idle for 2 minutes. With the bike level, check the sight glass while running – on the 400 RS SM, oil level should be midway in the window. Inspect drain bolts and covers for leaks. Top off oil as necessary.
