Step-By-Step Oil Change Instructions

Warm up the engine
Start the bike and let it idle for several minutes until it reaches normal operating temperature. Warm oil flows and drains easier, carrying more contaminants away. -
Remove skid plate
Use an 8mm socket to remove the three screws securing the lower bumper (skid plate). Set aside the plate for easy access to drain bolts. -
Drain the engine oil
Park the motorcycle on level ground. Locate the engine drain bolt (right side, lower case, near the oil filter cover). Use a 13mm socket to remove it and let oil completely drain into a container. Watch out for hot oil–engine and oil will be very hot after warming. Carefully remove and clean the wire mesh filter attached to the drain bolt before reinstalling. -
Drain the transmission oil
Locate the transmission drain bolt (usually toward the rear of the left side case). Remove with a 13mm socket and allow fluid to drain fully. Replace and torque to manufacturer spec. -
Change the paper oil filter
Find the oil filter cap on the right side of the engine. Remove the two bolts holding the cover (use a 6mm or 8mm socket if needed). Take out the old paper oil filter using seeger ring pliers if necessary.
Install the new oil filter, ensuring it seats properly. Reinstall oil filter cover and torque bolts to 6 Nm. -
Clean and reinstall wire mesh filter
Thoroughly rinse the wire mesh filter from the engine drain bolt with a suitable solvent and allow to dry. Inspect for any damage or contamination before refitting. -
Refill with specified engine oil
Remove the oil fill cap (left side). Pour in 800 ml of 10W-50 full synthetic oil. Do not overfill. For transmission oil, reference your owner's manual for exact fill and repeat the process in the appropriate fill port. -
Check for leaks & verify levels
Start the engine and let it idle for about five minutes. Inspect for leaks around drain bolts and filter cover.
With engine running and the bike level, check that oil is visible in the middle of the sight glass window. Once satisfied, shut down, wait several minutes, and double-check engine and transmission oil levels. - Reinstall skid plate

Properly dispose of used oil
Used oil is hazardous to the environment. Always dispose of old oil at an approved recycling or hazardous waste facility.
