How to Change the Coolant

  1. Ensure the engine is cool. Never service the cooling system on a hot bike.
  2. Remove Plastics for Access:
    • On the left (radiator) side: Locate and remove the top 5mm Allen screw to swing the shroud out of the way.
    • On the right side: Remove 4 screws and 2 plastic push retainers.

    • If the old coolant appears contaminated, flush the system by briefly filling with distilled water through the radiator, reinstalling the drain bolt, circulating the water, and draining again.
  6. Reinstall the Drain Bolt & Reservoir:
    • Install a new crush washer and torque the drain bolt securely (see your service manual for specs).
    • Reattach the overflow reservoir.
  7. Add Fresh Coolant:
    • Using a funnel, slowly fill the radiator with the appropriate premixed coolant until full.
    • Fill the reservoir bottle to the "upper" line.
  8. Burp the System:
    • Reinstall the radiator cap and set screw lightly. Start the engine and let it run until the cooling fan cycles or for several minutes, allowing air bubbles to escape. Stop the engine and let it cool down fully, then carefully remove the cap and top off coolant as needed.
  9. Reinstall Plastics:
    • Secure all panels and hardware exactly as removed, ensuring no hoses are pinched and the radiator cap is tight.
  10. Dispose of Old Coolant Responsibly:
    • NEVER pour used coolant on the ground or down a drain. Transport to a hazardous waste or automotive recycling facility.
