Step-by-Step Coolant Change Guide
- Prepare the TC50: Ensure the engine is cool to prevent burns. Place the bike upright on a stand.
- Drain the Old Coolant:
- Place a drain pan under the water pump cover (on the right side of the engine).
- Remove the drain screw from the bottom of the water pump cover. Allow all coolant to drain out completely. Removing the radiator cap to break the vacuum will ensure a complete drain.
- Inspect for Leaks or Issues: While the system is open, check hoses for cracks, swelling, or hardening. Replace any compromised hoses as the TC50 cooling system is sensitive to leaks or air ingress.
- Reinstall the Drain Screw: Once fully drained, clean and reinstall the drain screw, properly tightening to specification.
- Add Fresh Coolant:
- Slowly pour the fresh coolant into the radiator fill neck. The TC50's small system makes it easy to trap air–pour slowly and allow air pockets to escape.
- Eliminate Air Pockets:
- With the cap still off, gently rock the bike side to side. Squeeze radiator hoses to release trapped air bubbles.
- Once coolant level drops, top off to the bottom of the fill neck.
- Final Check:
- Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes. Watch the coolant level—as the thermostat opens and air escapes, the level may drop.
- Shut off the bike, let it cool, check the level, and top off if necessary. Replace the cap securely.
2017 TC50-Specific Tips
