Special Note for the KX65 Owner: The KX65 is a compact, race-oriented two-stroke with an aluminum radiator designed for maximum cooling efficiency. Due to its small coolant capacity, even small amounts of contamination can impact cooling, so always use high-quality, pre-mixed coolant specifically formulated for motorcycles. Do not use automotive coolant.

- A new bottle of motorcycle-specific coolant
- Distilled water (optional, for flushing if needed)

Step-By-Step Coolant Change Guide
- Ensure the engine is cool. Never open the radiator cap or drain coolant when the engine is hot due to pressurized steam and hot fluids.
- Remove the radiator cap. With the bike on a level surface, open the radiator cap to release any residual pressure. This helps the coolant drain freely.
- Locate and remove the drain bolt. The KX65's coolant drains through a bolt at the base of the water pump (right side of the engine). Use an 8mm wrench or socket to remove the drain bolt. Allow all coolant to flow into your drain pan.
Tip: Remove the coolant reservoir hose to ensure complete drainage if your KX65 has one. - Flush the system (optional but recommended). To remove old residue and contaminants, you may flush the radiator with distilled water. Pour distilled water through the open radiator cap until clear water drains from the water pump. Replace the drain bolt securely when finished.
- Refill with fresh coolant. Slowly pour new, pre-mixed motorcycle coolant into the radiator until it reaches the top of the neck. The KX65 requires approximately 0.44 quarts (0.42 liters) of coolant, but always check your manual for the exact amount.
- Bleed the system of air. Gently rock the bike side to side and squeeze radiator hoses to release any trapped air bubbles. Add more coolant as needed until the radiator stays full.
Some Kawasaki radiators have a bleed screw—check if your KX65 model is equipped. If so, loosen it to allow air to escape, then retighten once coolant flows out solidly. - Replace the radiator cap. Secure the radiator cap tightly.
- Start the engine. Allow the bike to idle for several minutes, then shut off and check the coolant level. Top off if necessary.
- Inspect for leaks. Check the drain bolt and hose connections for any seepage. Tighten as necessary.
