Step-by-Step Coolant Change
- Ensure the Bike is Cool
Never open the radiator cap or start this procedure on a hot bike. Allow the engine to cool completely to prevent burns & spills. - Remove the Radiator Cap
Twist the radiator cap open. Set aside safely. - Locate & Remove the Drain Bolt
Place your drain pan under the right side of the engine. Use a 10mm wrench to loosen and remove the coolant drain bolt. The KX100 typically houses this bolt on the lower cylinder or water pump cover. Allow all coolant to fully drain. It can be helpful to tilt the bike slightly to the left to expedite draining.
Clean up any spills immediately as old coolant is slippery and toxic. - Flush the System (Optional – Recommended)
Reinstall the drain bolt temporarily and pour distilled water into the radiator. Remove the bolt again to flush out any old coolant. Repeat until the drainage is clear. - Reinstall the Drain Bolt
Wipe threads clean and securely reinstall the drain bolt. Do not overtighten; snug is sufficient. - Add New Coolant
Using a funnel, pour the fresh coolant into the radiator until it is just below the filler neck. Avoid overfilling. - Bleed the System
With the cap off, start the engine and let it idle for 1–2 minutes. Squeeze the radiator hoses gently to help disperse any trapped air. Watch for bubbling, and once steady coolant flow is observed, stop the engine and top off the radiator to the correct level if needed. - Reinstall Radiator Cap
Fasten the cap securely. - Check for Leaks & Final Level
Inspect all fittings, hoses, and the drain bolt for leaks after a brief ride or heat cycle. Top up coolant if necessary once the bike is cool again.
