Replace the radiator cap, run the engine for a minute, then let it cool and repeat the drain. For thorough cleaning, repeat this process a second time if the old coolant was particularly dirty.
- Refill with New Coolant: With the drain bolt securely installed, fill the radiator with fresh coolant made for aluminum engines. Pour slowly using a funnel to prevent air bubbles; fill until the coolant reaches the bottom of the radiator neck.
- Bleed Air from the System: Tilt the bike upright and gently tap the hoses to release trapped air. You may need to top off the coolant after air bubbles escape. Some riders prefer to briefly start the engine with the radiator cap off to circulate fluid and eliminate any remaining air pockets–just make sure not to let any coolant spill.
- Check & Reinstall Components: Replace the radiator cap, reinstall the seat and shrouds, and clean up any spills. Properly dispose of your old coolant according to local environmental regulations.
- Final Check: Run the engine to operating temperature, then inspect the fluid level. Top off as needed. Check for leaks at the drain bolt and around hose connections.
