Prepare the Bike
Place the RM250 on a secure stand and let the engine fully cool. Remove the seat and shrouds if access to the radiator cap is restricted. Always work in a well-ventilated area. -
Drain the Old Coolant
Remove the radiator cap to allow air in – this helps the coolant drain freely. Position your drain pan under the radiator.
Locate and remove the drain plug from the bottom of the left radiator (typically on the lower tank). Let all coolant drain completely.
Note: Coolant is extremely toxic & can be harmful if swallowed or if it comes into contact with skin or eyes. Immediately flush skin with water if exposed and seek medical advice if swallowed. -
Flush the System (if changing coolant type)
If switching to a different coolant (such as water-based to non-water-based), it is wise to remove the radiator hoses and use compressed air to expel any remaining fluid from the system.
Carefully direct compressed air through the radiator top inlet, repeating on both sides to fully clear old coolant. Reinstall hoses once finished. -
Reinstall Drain Plug
Refit the drain plug and tighten to 5.5 N·m (0.55 kgf-m, 4.0 lb-ft). -
Refill With New Coolant
Slowly pour the recommended coolant into the radiator via funnel. The RM250's cooling system holds approximately 1 liter.
Fill gradually – do not rush. Overfilling or pouring too quickly can result in overflow and trapped air. Top up until the coolant reaches the neck of the radiator. -
Burp the System
Air trapped in the system can cause overheating. Briefly start the engine (cap still off), let it idle, and squeeze the radiator hoses to help purge any bubbles. Shut off the engine and top off coolant if the level drops.
Reinstall the radiator cap once the system is fully burped and the fluid is stable at the neck. -
Clean Up & Final Check
Wipe down any coolant spills. Dispose of old coolant safely – never dump it in the environment or household drains. Double-check for leaks around the drain plug and hoses.

- Inspect radiator fins for damage or clogging. Clean out dirt & debris for optimal cooling.
