The 2023 Yamaha TTR110 is a top choice for beginner and younger riders thanks to its approachable power, electric start, and reliable four-stroke engine. Keeping its engine protected and running its best relies heavily on a clean, properly oiled air filter. This guide from MotoSport lays out the steps and tips specific to the 2023 TTR110, empowering you to keep your bike ready for every ride.
When to Clean or Replace the Air Filter
- Clean the air filter element at regular intervals as outlined in your owner's manual, or more frequently when riding in dusty, muddy, or wet conditions–dirty filters quickly rob power and risk engine wear.
- Replace the filter if there are any holes, rips, or tears in the foam material–foam air filters are reusable up to the point of damage.
Tools & Supplies Needed
- Phillips head screwdriver
- 8mm and 10mm sockets or tools
- Dedicated foam air filter cleaner and air filter oil (not automotive oil or gasoline)
- Gloves and rags
- Warm water
How to Access the Air Filter
- Ensure the TTR110 is on a stable surface with the ignition off.
- Remove the right side panel and seat (seat bolts and quick-release fasteners are used here–keep track of hardware).
- With the panels removed, locate and unscrew the air filter case cover using your Phillips screwdriver and socket set. There are two or three screws depending on TTR110 production changes.
Air Filter Removal & Inspection
- Carefully pull the foam filter and support mesh from the airbox.
- Inspect the filter and airbox for dirt, water, or debris–clean out the airbox using a rag and a non-flammable, plastic-safe cleaner as needed.
- Check for any damage to the filter. Filters with even small tears must be replaced.
Cleaning the Air Filter
- Soak the filter in a dedicated foam air filter cleaner, working it gently to remove dirt without tearing the foam.
- Thoroughly rinse with warm water, then gently squeeze out excess water. Never use petrol, gasoline, or heat to clean or dry the filter–doing so damages the foam and risks fire.
- Allow the filter to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area.
Oiling the Filter
- Place the dry filter in a plastic bag, then slowly add air filter oil, ensuring full saturation throughout the foam. Squeeze to distribute evenly but do not wring.
- Add more oil into any dry spots but avoid oversaturating–excess oil can drip into the intake.
- Remove the filter from the bag and gently squeeze out any excess oil.
Reinstallation
- Install the support mesh and oiled air filter element back into the airbox, ensuring a snug and uniform seal all around the filter.
- Secure the airbox cover with the screws you removed, then reinstall the seat and side panel.
Disposal & Environmental Tips
- Dispose of used cleaner and excess oil responsibly–do not pour them down household drains or onto the ground.
- Wipe up any spills immediately and wash your hands thoroughly after handling filter oil and cleaner.
Special Notes for the 2023 TTR110 Owner
- The TTR110 airbox features a water trap on the lower rear side, designed to catch any water that enters. Check this tube and empty as needed–especially after wet riding.
- Always reinstall the air filter with the mesh support – it prevents the foam from being sucked into the intake under heavy throttle.
- Incorrect filter installation, using the wrong kind of oil, or reusing a torn filter can result in costly engine damage not covered by warranty.
