Saved my sternum!

I bought one of these chest protectors about 3 years ago... I'm still wearing the original one I bought. The Shock doctor is light weight and form fitting, you hardly notice you have it on, (but I feel naked riding without it!) After 3 years of abuse and several decent crashes, this thing is still going strong! It comes with spare screws which I've never had to use. So far it has protected my back, rib cage and sternum from injury. During my first race I went off the track and landed on top of my bike. From an 8' drop I landed with my chest right onto the handlebar end, (you know, those stupid anodized aluminum insert handle bar ends). It knocked the wind out of me for a good few minutes but I was able to recover and finish the race. Later that night I notice the round handlebar end shaped dent in the front chest protector right over the sternum area. I had abrasion marks on my skin from the padding on impact, but not even a bruise on my chest. That hit could have easily broken my sternum... or worse!!
Excellent rib cage/vital organ protection, worth the money, never ride without one!!!

Not safe for Crashes

My younger brother of 26 years old had this for about a year. It looked cool on him and fit with all of his gear and never complained about comfort. It serves as a good roost deflector, NOTHING MORE. He shattered his collarbone while making 10 to 15mph turn. The bike slid out (as not uncommon on dirt bikes) and he fell on his side and broke his collarbone just that easy. It offers NO side nor ANY impact protection what so ever for something priced this high.

It does make an excellent roost deflector, the price should be way lower though considering how easy it is to still get hurt while wearing it.

Excellent protection

Great product with good fitment and protection. It is heavy compared to a standard chest protector but with amount of coverage you get it is worth it.

Quality built product

This chest protector is very comfortable. I forget I even have it on. Seems as though it will protect quite well for impact. I haven't hit the ground yet with this so I can't comment on how well it actually works, but from the way it fits and feels I think it will work great.

Comfort and Protection

This chest protector provides comfort and protection even while being low profile. You can wear this chest protector over or under your gear and it doesn't look bulky. The protector breathes nice and fits snug. It has a ton of adjustability that allows you customize the size to fit your body shape. I am 6' 1" and 135 pounds. The large fits me great.

Good in the desert.

I ride in the desert where the ridable temperatures are 30s to 90s. I wear this under my jersey over a breathable baselayer. I use a leatte neck brace and I have had the whole setup for 2 years. This chest protector is very good. I don't see that it would ever wear out but if it did I would by another. This is so breathable that you can feel the breeze on your chest and back when stopped.

Great purchase!

It's worth every penny! Fits great with my Atlas neck brace. The chest protector is so comfortable that I forget I'm even wearing it! My son has borrowed it and keeps threatening to take it. I love how adjustable it is and the way it wraps around my sides too. I will not go back to my previous style chest protector and will probably buy another for my son.

So good, I had to get another!

This is actually my second purchase of this chest protector. The first one has lasted me several years and has only just started to wear out. I have been involved in numerous crashes and this protector has held up beautifully.

It's very flexible and the venting keeps me much cooler than other protectors. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants a durable protector that stands up to abuse and is also very comfortable to wear.

Answer: Fitment cannot be guaranteed with all neck braces, for every rider. With that said the Troy Lee Designs Shock Doctor CP5955 Chest Protector design is compatible with leading neck braces without compromising fit and protection. You shouldn't have any compatibility problems.

Answer: I would suggest you look at products from Leatte and Alpinestar for the most protection. Most of their products have also been CE certified.

Answer: Yes, this is compatible with the Atlas Neck Brace. Typically this style chest protector is worn over the jersey but can be worn under as well. Keep in mind you may need to go up a size in the jersey if you do.

Answer: The forearm guards are attached to the shoulder guards. It looks like shoulder guard can be removed with three bolts. I haven't tried it. The whole chest protector fits easily under the jersey.
