Pirelli DR3

Very happy with the Pirelli tires. Had a tough time deciding between several brands and models. For the price and performance I'm glad I bought the Pirelli DR3!

Bi-compound rear a letdown

I put a set of these on my Ducati 748 when it needed tires about 4k-5k miles ago. I'm more or less satisfied overall, but will be switching to something else now that they're shot. I commute on this bike, so no crazy antics - and I'm more interested in grip from a safety perspective vs. all-out performance.

The front tire from this set was great. I typically wear fronts out first, and many other brands of fronts have given me sloppy handling as they wore, due to uneven wear. This tire has worn evenly and still feels good, despite being totally shot. I love this front tire.

Meanwhile, the bi-compound rear - designed to enhance wear on the middle of the tire due to the harder compound - not so great. Sure enough, the middle of the tire has been long-wearing, but almost TOO long-wearing. I typically find that rears of other tire sets go bald in the middle first, so I was hoping this tire would avoid that. Well, it did. But instead, it just went bald on the sides. This kind of kills the point of the long-lasting center compound extending tire life. The tire is still shot, in about the same mileage as I've worn out other rear tires. Plus, there's now a pretty distinct ridge between the harder center compound, which wore more slowly, and the softer side compound, which wore more quickly. You can feel this uneven wear as the bike leans. Worse still, the compound used in the middle is really just too hard for confident grip. On more than one occasion, I've locked the rear under moderate braking during my commute, something that didn't happen with other tires on this bike. It's not TERRIBLE by any stretch, and it's not a big deal to self-correct and adjust your front/rear braking bias as you ride, but I'd much prefer a tire with a little more stick in the middle, even if that meant the middle wore out first. So, I'm back online writing a "wouldn't recommend" review of these tires as I search for their replacement.

So far, so good

I bought these to replace the Diablo Rosso 2 tires originally installed on my Ducati Monster 821. Overall, they handle great and look awesome too. Motosport had a good deal on the combo and they shipped them really fast... had them on my doorstep in 2 days. I'll have to follow up once I've put more miles on them.

Great response

Third set of d.r.3 and they get awesome treadwear life and warm up time. No bad things to say about this savage tire set.

A: According to Pirelli, the D-Spec is for the heavier sport touring bikes. It was designed specifically for the Ducati Multistrada GT.
Q: Hard to tell from the image or description, but does this also come with a rim or is it just the tire?

A: That price is just for the tire, the rim is in the picture for reference only.

A: This is for just the tire. The rim in the picture is for display purposes.
Q: I currently have Pilot Power 3 on my 13' CBR1000RR. How would these tires compare as far as grip is concerned. I'm not too worried about longevity.

A: Looks like the Rosso is going to com in at better traction under power and cornering. They are going to be less efficient at dispersing water due to tread design or lack there of on the clear outs. Also Rosso takes some time to get to temperature. Its an all around better grip tire and better cornering ability. Hope this helps man. The pilot power 3's are also great tires.

A: They are pretty close, with the bigger bike the Rosso 3s seem to be a pretty popular switch, if you are only worried about grip I would recommend the Diablo Rosso Corsa which will be stickier but not last as long and the Diablo Supercorsa is even stickier than that but don't last nearly as long. So with longevity not really being the issue I would check out the Supercorsa tires.
