A: As your cams continue to need adjusted, eventually you will need to change the shims. It would be convenient to have them at those times.

Q: Will this eliminate the need for the decompression value on my '01 WR250F?
1 year 9 months ago
I have read that upgrading the exhaust cam on my '01 WR250F with an '03 YZ250F exhaust cam will eliminate the need to use the bike's decompression valve/level. Is this the part I need? Also, what gaskets or gasket kit should I buy with it? Thanks, Jim.

A: Yes, the HOTCAMS Camshaft with Auto Decompressor should make your 2001 Yamaha YZ250F's motor easier to turn over.

A: Yes, the HotCams Stage 1 Exhaust cam will work with your stock intake cam. You will not get the performance gains you would if you were to install both HotCams in your bike but yes, you could just install the Exhaust Cam in your Yamaha YZ250F.

A: This will convert the bike to what Yamaha did in 03 with the autodecompression cam. This will help the bike start a lot easier.

A: You might need either new reeds or a new piston.

A: Clean your carb. The ethanol gas destroys the jets, and the older the bike the more damage. Just replaced all the jets and put the Carb Body in a Jewelry Cleaner I got at Harbor Freight. My '99 YZ250 now starts and runs like a champ.
