I got this protector to comply with AHRMA rules for back protectors and as I already have a 1 piece suite I needed something slim to fit under it. This piece feels amazing and light I forget I have it on most of the time.

I use this for paragliding since accidents can happen. I'm more concerned with back injury since a sprained ankle will easily heal. I made it a habit to wear this every time I fly.
Amazingly, within 2 months of buying this I had a flying incident. I hit sink and couldn't clear some obstacles when using a very bad wing. The end of my wing hit a pole and I ended up getting spun and fell directly on my back from several feet high. I felt the contents of my airbag harness hit hard against the back protector so I knew it protected me. I was totally fine. I got up and packed my gear away and was laughing about it with a drink within 30 minutes.
So the combined protection of the back protector and the airbag of my paragliding harness did an amazing job. My left elbow and wrist hit the ground and were sprained, but my back was totally fine! If I had pulled my left arm in front of me, I would have had no injuries at all.
Just knowing I have this gives me great confidence when I fly. I would recommend this for motorcyclist, mountain bikers, and other hangliders/paragliders. It should be standard issue with those activities.
