I am the one who wrote the comment about the radar detector not working through the windshield. That is incorrect. I should have waited to write that until I was sure. The windshield is not a problem at all. It was a mistake.
I had my mechanic connect my Aptiva detector, and it looked perfect. Prime place on handlebars, solid as a rock. But I got a scare when I went thru a radar trap and the detector didn't warn me. I did a little detective work, and it turns out that the radar detector doesn't work through my (fortunately, removable) windshield. So I took the windshield off, went through the trap again, and perfection!! I was afraid that I would need the Bluetooth setup for it to really work, but it is loud enough without it to catch my attention, along with the red lights. So I am happy. I just took a star off because it didn't work through my windshield, and if I didn't have a removable windshield, I would have been SOL. So before you buy, make sure that you don't have a permanent windshield. Maybe there is a way around that problem, but it could be a show-stopper.
Ive always had a radar detector in my car, but not on my bike. This makes no sense because its so much easier to speed on the bike. I'm very happy with this radar detector, it works very well. I would definitely recommend getting the bluetooth transmitter with it so you can hear it going off in your helmet. Great product at a great price.
Used this radar detector on a recent motorcycle trip I took and it worked flawlessly. What I really like about the product, besides the fact that it works, is that it is made for motorcycles. It is durable, has larger buttons that work well with gloves on, and the mounting holes on the plate line up perfectly with RAM mounts.
