The 2017 Husqvarna TC65 is the next step up from the 50cc entry-level in Husqvarna’s youth motocross program—a 65cc two-stroke single designed for riders who have outgrown the TC50 and are ready to advance their technique and competition level. With real manual clutch operation, a genuine two-stroke powerband, and a proper mini MX chassis, the TC65 introduces young riders to more advanced racing concepts. Correct torque maintenance is as important here as it is on any race machine.

65cc Youth Two-Stroke Torque Notes

The TC65’s 65cc two-stroke produces real power with a distinct powerband that riders must learn to manage. Exhaust manifold bolts, cylinder head hardware, and power valve cover fasteners all experience the thermal cycling and vibration that characterize two-stroke motocross engines. Pre-session fastener checks are more important on the TC65 than on the TC50 because the higher engine output creates more fastener stress.

All torque values are dry specifications. Anti-seize on the spark plug threads is recommended, reducing applied torque by approximately 10 percent at the spark plug specifically. Use a low-range precision wrench for all TC65 work.

Thread Locker on the TC65

Apply medium-strength thread locker to rear sprocket bolts, brake disc hardware, and exhaust manifold nuts on the 2017 TC65. The power valve cover bolts should also receive a light thread locker application. Anti-seize on the spark plug is standard. Never apply thread locker to axle hardware that requires regular repositioning.

Torque Error Consequences on the TC65

Power valve cover bolts that loosen on the TC65 allow the valve to flutter improperly, disrupting the two-stroke powerband and making the engine feel inconsistent—confusing for a developing young rider learning manual clutch skills. Over-torqued cylinder head hardware risks stripping aluminum threads permanently. Loose rear shock hardware makes the TC65 feel harsh and unpredictable on jump landings. Correct torque is directly linked to rider confidence at this developmental stage.

Torque Wrench Guidance

A low-range torque wrench (2–30 Nm) covers the full range of TC65 fasteners accurately. A digital torque wrench in this range is the most versatile and precise option. A compact beam wrench is a reliable backup. Avoid using full-size adult-bike torque wrenches on the TC65—the inaccuracy at the bottom of a 100 Nm wrench’s range is too great for the precision required on 65cc fastener hardware.
