Building on the new frame introduced for 2017, the 2018 Beta 250 RR two-stroke continues to refine the platform with detail improvements to the 250cc liquid-cooled engine, electronic oil injection system, and overall build quality. The KYB 48mm fork and Sachs rear shock in the second-year chrome-moly steel frame provide increasingly well-sorted suspension performance as Beta dials in the new chassis. The six-speed gearbox and power valve system remain central to the 250 RR’s character — a broad, controllable powerband that rewards smooth riding. Proper fastener torque is the mechanical foundation of that riding experience.
Engine Torque Values
The 250cc two-stroke engine in the 2018 model carries the same proven architecture and torque specifications as the prior generation. With the second year on the current frame, the engine-to-frame interface has been validated through a full season of production and field use, providing confidence in the mounting bolt specifications.
| Fastener | Torque (Nm) | Torque (ft-lbs) |
|---|---|---|
| Spark Plug | 25 | 18 |
| Cylinder Head Nuts | 35 | 26 |
| Cylinder Base Nuts | 30 | 22 |
| Flywheel Nut | 60 | 44 |
| Clutch Hub Nut | 60 | 44 |
| Transmission Drain Plug | 15 | 11 |
| Power Valve Cover Bolts | 10 | 7 |
The electronic oil injection system on the 2018 250 RR meters oil to the engine based on throttle position and RPM. There is no engine oil drain plug in the traditional sense — the only oil service is the transmission drain at 15 Nm. Keep the injection reservoir filled with the correct two-stroke oil and inspect the injection pump lines periodically for leaks or deterioration.

Dry vs. Wet Torque
Dry torque — clean, unlubricated threads — is the standard for all values above. When thread locker or lubricant is present, reduce applied torque by 15–20% to compensate for the reduced friction that produces higher clamping force. The 250cc engine’s 35 Nm head nut spec is the most sensitive to this distinction — wet conditions produce enough extra force to distort the large-bore cylinder.
Consequences of Incorrect Torque
Over-torquing the 250’s head nuts can distort the cylinder bore and power valve mechanism, robbing the engine of the smooth power delivery the platform is designed for. Under-torquing allows the 250’s substantial combustion pressures to breach the gasket. On the chassis, loose engine mounts misalign the chain and allow the heavy 250cc engine to move within the frame, creating vibration that degrades handling and accelerates bearing wear.
Thread Locker Application
Medium-strength (blue) thread locker for the 2018 Beta 250 RR:
- Rear sprocket nuts
- Disc bolts (all)
- Linkage bolts
- Subframe bolts
- Exhaust mount hardware
- Skid plate bolts
- Power valve cover bolts
The 250cc expansion chamber’s higher operating temperature accelerates thread locker degradation on exhaust hardware. Inspect after every few rides. High-strength (red) compound is reserved for permanent installations.
Torque Wrench Selection
The 2018 Beta 250 RR’s fasteners span 10–100 Nm. A 3/8-inch drive click-type wrench handles the bulk of the work. A 1/4-inch drive wrench provides precision for 10 Nm disc bolts and power valve cover hardware. Digital wrenches excel at low-torque accuracy. Beam wrenches offer dependable, zero-maintenance performance. Two drive sizes cover the full maintenance scope of this refined 250cc two-stroke enduro platform.
