The 2006 Honda CR250 is widely regarded as one of the most sought-after late-production CR250 models. Honda had refined the aluminum frame, suspension, and two-stroke powerplant over many seasons, and by ’06 the package represented the fully mature version of the design. Correct torque values on every fastener are what keep a ’06 CR250 performing the way it was designed to.

Cylinder & Engine Assembly

The ’06 CR250 uses the proven 249cc liquid-cooled reed-valve two-stroke engine with Honda’s ATAC power valve system. Cylinder head bolts should be torqued in sequence with the engine cold—tightening a warm aluminum head can distort the mating surface and cause long-term sealing problems.

Suspension Torque Values

Fork performance on the 2006 CR250 is one of its strong suits. The Showa units were praised for their plushness and precision. Triple clamp bolts at the correct torque allow the fork legs to function independently without binding. If they’re over-tightened, even a freshly revalved fork can feel wooden and unresponsive.

The 2006 CR250 is a vintage two-stroke worth preserving. Beyond just torque values, protecting the aluminum threads throughout the bike is a priority during any service. Helicoil thread inserts can save an otherwise stripped boss in the frame or engine cases—far better than the alternative of replacing the entire component.
