Rubber fuel hose is among the cheapest parts on a 2022 Yamaha XT250 and one of the few that can end a ride outright. It hardens, cracks, and weeps fuel where you cannot see it, eventually either starving the engine or putting gasoline somewhere it should never be. Swapping it needs no specialty tools and no shop time.
Confirming the Fuel System on Your 2022 Yamaha XT250
This XT250 came with fuel injection, so you are working on a pressurized circuit fed by a pump inside the tank. There is no shutoff valve, which is why line-clamping pliers move from optional to essential on a 2022 Yamaha XT250. Squeeze the hose closed upstream of the connection you plan to break and the tank stays put.
What a Dying Fuel Line Looks Like

Age drives it: the plasticizers keeping the hose flexible slowly migrate out, and pliable rubber turns stiff and glassy, so a small flex — bolting the tank down, rocking the bike onto a stand — opens a hairline crack. Dry, hot storage accelerates that, pulling volatiles out faster than a temperate garage would. Ethanol-blended pump fuel left sitting in the hose adds a second mechanism, attacking the inner wall and leaving gum that can flake into the fuel path on a 2022 Yamaha XT250.
Parts, Tools, and a Safe Workspace
Assemble everything first. Once the line is off, you do not want to be driving to the parts store with an open fuel system.
- Replacement fuel line rated for injection pressure and sized for your 2022 Yamaha XT250. Low-pressure carburetor hose is not a substitute.
- Line-clamping pliers. With no petcock on the XT250, these are how you stop the tank siphoning while the line is open.

One genuine safety note: gasoline vapor is heavier than air and travels along the floor toward anything that can ignite it. Work outdoors or with the door open, shut off any heater with a pilot light, keep the fuel container capped, and let a hot engine cool first.
Working the Original Hose Free
Injected bikes take the petcock out of the equation, so line-clamping pliers become the shutoff. Clamp the hose closed between the tank and the fitting you intend to open, and confirm it is fully pinched before going further.
Bleed off the pressure remaining in the circuit. With the ignition off and the engine cool, drape a rag over the connection and break it loose gradually. The rag catches the brief spray that comes with releasing a pressurized line.
Now get the fittings apart. On the 2022 Yamaha XT250 you may be dealing with a self-locking quick-connect, which releases by pressing a tab or retracting a collar rather than by force. Identify the mechanism first — these connectors break when pried on, and replacements are not cheap. Where the XT250 uses a clamped barb instead, slide the clamp back, twist the hose a quarter turn, and pull it off; slit any hose that has hardened onto the fitting.
Routing and Securing the New Line
Cut the new pressure-rated hose to match the original length exactly. On an injected XT250 the routing is often tighter than on a carbureted bike, and extra length has nowhere useful to go. Square, clean cuts matter more here because the joint seals against pump pressure rather than gravity.
Seat the tank-side connection first. If your 2022 Yamaha XT250 uses a quick-connect coupler, push the halves together firmly until the lock clicks, then confirm engagement by pulling lightly — a coupler that is not latched will separate under pressure. These fittings are self-locking and need no clamp at all. Where a barbed fitting is used instead, drive the hose fully onto the barb.
Leave lubricant out of it. No grease, no oil, nothing on the fitting or hose end, whatever the connection type. It degrades the seal, and on a quick-connect it can interfere with the locking mechanism. Finish at the throttle body end, verify the routing is clear of heat and moving parts, and install clamps only where the design calls for them.
Wrapping Up and Checking Your Work
Take the clamping pliers off and pressurize before starting. Cycle the ignition to run the pump on the XT250 for a few seconds, then inspect both connections — a pressurized static test exposes a bad joint immediately, without the engine running.
With that clear, start the engine and inspect once more at operating temperature. Quick-connect couplers are the ones to watch, since a connector only partly latched may hold at first and release later. Confirm full engagement and a completely dry joint. Anything less means remaking the connection properly.
Keep in mind that a fuel-injected 2022 Yamaha XT250 normally carries its fuel filter inside the tank alongside the pump instead of inline on the hose, so there is no filter on the visible line to service.
