- Clutch basket & hub check basket fingers for notching where plates engage; deep notches cause grab and inconsistent release.
- Inner hub splines confirm they aren't rounded or excessively worn; play here causes slippage under load.
- Springs check free length and evenness across springs; weak or uneven springs will change lever feel and engagement point.
- Thrust washer & pushrod inspect for wear, burrs or galling that can stick or misalign the pressure plate.

Preparing new plates
