Preparation

  • Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes. Warm oil drains more easily and more thoroughly.
  • With the engine off, place the bike upright and level on a shop stand.
  • Remove the skid plate. On the 2012 KTM 350 EXC-F, there is a simple pin under the frame: twist and unhook to quickly drop the plate away for clear access to the drain plug and screens. This is easier than many other models and helps speed up service.

Draining the Old Oil

Adding Fresh Oil

  • Remove the oil filler cap (right side of engine).
  • Insert a funnel to avoid spills.
  • Pour in 1.2 liters of fresh 10w/50 synthetic oil for a full change. Some riders use 10w/60, but 10w/50 is the spec.

  • Reinstall the filler cap. Make sure the oil seal is in good condition and seated correctly.

Final Checks

  • After filling, let the oil settle for up to 5 minutes.
  • Start the engine and let it idle for a minute. This allows oil to circulate and fill the new filter.
  • Turn off the engine, let it sit for a few more minutes for the oil to settle.
  • With the bike upright, check the oil level in the sight glass (below the rear brake pedal). On the 2012 KTM 350 EXC-F, the oil should be at the midpoint of the sight window circle.

  • If the level is low, add oil in small increments. Do not overfill.
