Keep your 2021 Beta 390 RR Race Edition running cool – and performing at its best – with regular coolant changes. This model uses a high-performance molybdenum steel frame and features quick side access for maintenance, making coolant servicing straightforward and efficient. Here's the proprietary MotoSport procedure for changing the coolant on your Beta 390 RR Race Edition:
What You'll Need:
- High-quality, motorcycle-specific coolant
- Drain pan
- 8mm and 10mm sockets or wrenches
- Flathead screwdriver
- Clean shop rags
- Funnel
- Gloves and safety glasses
Instructions:
- Let the bike cool: Ensure the engine is completely cool before working on the cooling system to avoid burns.
- Remove radiator shrouds: Using an 8mm socket, carefully take off the side plastics for better access to the radiators.
- Locate the radiator cap & drain bolt: The cap is on top of the right-side radiator. The drain bolt is typically at the lowest point of the water pump on the right side of the engine case.
- Prepare to drain: Place a drain pan directly beneath the water pump. Slowly loosen the radiator cap to relieve any pressure.
- Drain the old coolant: With the 10mm socket, remove the drain bolt and let the coolant flow out completely. For best results, lean the bike slightly to the right.
- Flush (recommended): If the coolant is dirty, re-install the drain bolt and fill the radiator with deionized water, then run the bike briefly (just until warm, not hot). Let it cool, drain again. Repeat until the water runs clear.
- Reinstall the drain bolt: Torque to factory specs (do not overtighten – the water pump cover is aluminum, so use care).
- Add new coolant: Using a funnel, fill the radiator until the coolant just reaches the bottom of the cap's neck. Tilt the bike left and right gently to burp any trapped air.
- Check for leaks and purge air: Reinstall the cap. Start the bike and let it idle until it cycles the thermostat open (fans may kick on). Shut down, let cool, and re-check the level. Top off as needed.
- Reassemble: Install plastics, making sure the shrouds are secure.
2021 Beta 390 RR Race Edition Coolant Tips & Notes
- This model features a split double cradle molybdenum steel frame and side-access air filter, making maintenance easier than most full-size enduros.
- Factory Beta recommends a particular concentration of coolant – always reference your owner's manual for mix specifications. Using the right coolant protects the lightweight aluminum engine from corrosion.
- Inspect the radiator and hose connections for wear & leaks during each coolant change.
- Consider upgrading to silicone hoses or higher-performance coolant for improved durability in racing conditions.
- Disposal of old coolant must be handled properly – never pour down drains or onto the ground. Take spent fluid to a recycling center.
Timely coolant changes extend engine life and help your Beta 390 RR Race Edition deliver reliable power in demanding conditions. Coolant inspection is even more crucial if you ride off-road in extreme heat or cold.
