The 2015 Beta 390 RR introduces a new displacement to Beta’s four-stroke enduro lineup — a 389cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder that slots between the 350 and 430. The larger bore and longer stroke produce more torque than the 350 while maintaining a more manageable character than the 430. Electronic fuel injection, four valves, and a six-speed gearbox deliver the power through the steel perimeter frame with KYB 48mm fork and Sachs rear shock. The 390’s increased displacement over the 350 means higher combustion loads on the head gasket, greater torque through the drivetrain, and heavier forces on every chassis connection. The additional 40cc demands the same precision as the 350, with slightly higher stakes.

Engine Torque Specifications

Fastener Torque (Nm) Torque (ft-lbs)
Spark Plug 12 9
Cylinder Head Bolts 45 33
Cylinder Base Bolts 25 18
Valve Cover Bolts 10 7
Cam Sprocket Bolts 12 9
Oil Drain Plug 20 15
Oil Filter Cover Bolts 10 7
Flywheel/Rotor Nut 75 55
Clutch Hub Nut 75 55

The 390’s larger bore requires slightly higher head bolt torque than the 350 — 45 Nm versus 40 Nm — to seal the increased bore diameter against higher combustion pressures. The flywheel and clutch hub nuts also increase to 75 Nm to handle the 390’s greater rotating mass and torque output.

Dry vs. Wet Torque

Oil drain plug: always wet; reduce 15–20% with sealant. The 390’s higher head bolt spec (45 Nm) makes wet torque correction even more important — wet conditions at 45 Nm could produce effective clamping force exceeding 55 Nm. All other values assume dry threads.

390 vs. 350: Why the Difference Matters

The 390’s larger bore diameter and higher compression require increased head bolt torque to maintain the gasket seal. Riders transitioning from the 350 must update their mental references — 45 Nm head bolts, not 40 Nm; 75 Nm flywheel and clutch hub, not 70 Nm. Using 350 specs on the 390 under-torques critical engine fasteners. The 40cc increase generates measurably higher forces throughout the engine and drivetrain.

Thread Locker Recommendations

Medium-strength (blue) thread locker for the 2015 Beta 390 RR:

  • Rear sprocket nuts
  • All disc bolts
  • Linkage bolts
  • Subframe bolts
  • Exhaust header bolts
  • Skid plate bolts

Torque Wrench Selection

A 3/8-inch drive click-type for 20–100 Nm covers the 390’s elevated engine specs. A 1/4-inch drive for 10–12 Nm valve cover and cam hardware. Two drive sizes for the new 390cc four-stroke enduro.
