The 2005 Beta 400 RR represents Beta’s mid-2000s four-stroke enduro built around a 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection and a five-speed gearbox. The steel perimeter frame, Marzocchi 45mm fork, and Sachs rear shock provide the chassis. The 400cc displacement delivers strong mid-range torque for technical enduro terrain, positioning the 400 RR as Beta’s primary four-stroke enduro offering during this era. The 2005 model uses the established engine architecture with four valves and DOHC valve actuation. Precise torque across the engine, chassis, and drivetrain keeps this capable enduro machine performing reliably in demanding conditions.

Dry vs. Wet Torque

Oil drain plug: always wet; reduce 15–20% with sealant. All other values assume dry threads. On the 400’s larger bore, the 45 Nm head bolt spec requires careful wet torque correction to prevent over-clamping.

Aging Hardware Considerations

On a 2005 model, thread condition is a primary concern. Two decades of use and repeated disassembly can wear threads on aluminum cases and cylinder studs. Inspect all threads during service and replace any fastener showing signs of stretching or corrosion. The Marzocchi fork clamp bolts should be verified carefully — the lower clamp at 12 Nm is sensitive to damaged threads on older hardware.

Thread Locker Recommendations

Medium-strength (blue) thread locker for the 2005 Beta 400 RR:

  • Rear sprocket nuts
  • All disc bolts
  • Linkage bolts
  • Subframe bolts
  • Exhaust header bolts
  • Skid plate bolts

Torque Wrench Selection

A 3/8-inch drive click-type for 20–100 Nm and a 1/4-inch drive for 10–12 Nm hardware. Two drive sizes for the 400cc four-stroke enduro.
