How to Bleed & Replace Brake Fluid on a 2021 CFMOTO CFORCE 800 XC EPS
Shop parts for a 2021 CFMOTO CFORCE800XC ATV.
This procedure covers a full brake fluid replacement and bleed on the 2021 CFMOTO CFORCE 800 XC EPS. It assumes the machine has hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, a handlebar master cylinder reservoir, and no vehicle ABS. Use DOT 4 brake fluid unless your service manual specifies otherwise.
Tools & supplies
- DOT 4 brake fluid, unopened bottle
- Clear vinyl tubing to fit bleeder nipples
- Clean catch container (marked for brake fluid)
- Socket set, open wrench for bleeder nipples
- Brake bleeder kit or vacuum pump (optional)
- Shop rags, isopropyl alcohol for cleanup
- Gloves & eye protection
- Service manual for torque values and bleed order
Model notes & pre-checks specific to the CFORCE 800 XC EPS
- The CFORCE 800 XC EPS uses hydraulic discs front and rear; both calipers must be bled when replacing fluid.
- Power steering (EPS) systems are electrical on this model and do not affect brake bleeding, but keep battery charged during the job to avoid electrical resets.
- Check the master cylinder reservoir orientation on the handlebar – fluid level must be visible and clean of debris before opening.
- Use only DOT-rated fluid recommended by the manual – do not mix DOT 3 with DOT 4 or use mineral oil.
- Store and dispose of old brake fluid responsibly — it is corrosive and will damage paint and plastics.
Preparation
- Park the ATV on level ground and secure it so it cannot roll. Turn ignition off.
- Clean around the master cylinder cap and reservoir; remove cap and diaphragm carefully to avoid contamination.
- Top reservoir with fresh DOT 4 fluid to the specified level; keep the cap loosely set aside to reduce fluid exposure to air.
- Identify the bleed order. If factory info is unavailable, use the general rule: bleed from the caliper furthest from the master cylinder first, then progress to the nearest.
- Attach clear tubing to the caliper bleeder nipple and submerge the other end in a small amount of fresh fluid in the catch container to prevent air re-entry.
Bleeding procedure – two common methods
1) Two-person pump method
- Person A sits on the seat and slowly pumps the brake lever 3–5 times, then holds steady pressure on the lever.
- Person B opens the bleeder nipple about 1/4 turn to let fluid and air escape into the tubing; close the nipple before the lever is released.
- Person A releases the lever slowly after the nipple is closed. Repeat until no air bubbles appear in the tubing and the expelled fluid is clear.
- Keep the master cylinder topped off during the process to avoid running dry.
2) Vacuum/pressure bleeder
- Attach the vacuum bleeder to the bleeder nipple or use a pressure-supply reservoir on the master cylinder per the tool instructions.
- Operate the tool until clear fluid free of bubbles runs to the container. Maintain reservoir level and follow the tool manufacturer steps exactly.
Bleed sequence
- Front right caliper > Front left caliper > Rear caliper(s), or follow the factory-specified order in your service manual.
- Repeat the full sequence if the lever feels spongy. Proper pedal/lever feel should be firm with no travel that feels sponge-like.
Finishing steps
- When all calipers show clear, bubble-free fluid, tighten bleeder nipples to the correct snugness; use manufacturer torque if available.
- Top the master reservoir to the proper level, reinstall diaphragm and cap, and clean any spilled fluid immediately with isopropyl alcohol.
- Cycle the brakes several times with the machine off and then with the engine running to confirm consistent, firm lever feel.
- Check for leaks around bleeder nipples, hoses, calipers, and the master cylinder after a short test ride. Re-torque fasteners per the service manual if needed.
- Record the date and mileage of the fluid change — brake fluid is hygroscopic; replace every 1–2 years depending on use.
Safety reminders
- Never let the reservoir run dry mid-procedure; this will pull air into the system and require repeating the bleed.
- Brake fluid damages paint and plastic – protect bodywork and clean spills immediately.
- Use only the DOT fluid specified; mixing different brake fluids can reduce performance or cause seal damage.
- If you cannot achieve firm brakes after multiple bleeding attempts, consult a professional technician — internal caliper or master cylinder issues may exist.
Complete the job by disposing of old fluid as hazardous waste and storing any remaining DOT 4 in a sealed container away from moisture. After service, perform a cautious test ride to verify braking performance under low-speed conditions before normal operation.
