This MotoSport guide gives clear, step-by-step instructions to safely replace and bleed the brake fluid on a 2016 Suzuki King Quad 750AXi 4x4. Procedures below are written for home service technicians and are specific to the King Quad 750AXi platform where applicable. Always consult your factory service manual before beginning.
What you'll need
- Manufacturer-specified brake fluid (use DOT 4 or the fluid specified in your owner's manual)
- Clear vinyl tubing sized to fit bleeder nipples
- Brake bleeder wrench or box wrench set
- Brake fluid reservoir funnel or small funnel with filter
- Clean rags & nitrile gloves
- Catch container for old fluid
- Vacuum bleeder (recommended) or a helper for the pump-and-hold method
- Torque wrench for caliper/line hardware as required
- Jack stands or ATV ramps and wheel chocks
Model-specific notes for the 2016 King Quad 750AXi 4x4
- The 2016 King Quad 750AXi uses a hydraulic disc-brake system with a front master cylinder at the handlebar and a rear master cylinder depending on trim. Brake lines route to dual front calipers and a rear caliper. Confirm which master cylinder supplies each circuit before bleeding.
- This ATV does not commonly have ABS on standard models, but some configurations use supplemental systems. If your unit has any electronic brake module, follow the service manual for electronic-bleed procedures.
- Make note of the parking brake and transmission position when bleeding — park in neutral with ignition off and wheels blocked to prevent unexpected movement.
- Brake fluid is hygroscopic; if the reservoir fluid is dark or contaminated, replace it fully. If fluid is near the max fill and clear, a partial bleed may suffice, but a full flush is recommended every 1-2 years depending on use.
Safety first
- Work on a level surface, secure the ATV with chocks, and support with stands if wheels are removed.
- Brake fluid will damage paint & plastics. Wipe spills immediately and dispose of old fluid properly.
- Never let the master cylinder reservoir run dry while bleeding – you will introduce air into the system and lengthen the job.
Preparation
- Clean the reservoir cap area thoroughly. Remove cap and diaphragm, keeping dirt out of the fluid.
- Top the reservoir with fresh DOT 4 brake fluid to the specified level.
- Locate bleeder screws on each caliper. Fit clear tubing over the bleeder and submerge the other end in a catch bottle partially filled with fresh fluid to prevent air re-entry.
- If using a vacuum bleeder, attach it to the bleeder nipple per tool instructions. If using a helper, have them sit on the seat to operate the brake lever/pedal.
Bleeding order
Start with the caliper furthest from the master cylinder and finish with the closest. Typical order on ATVs:
- 1) Right front
- 2) Left front
- 3) Rear
Confirm routing on your unit and adjust order if the master cylinder location requires it.
Bleeding procedure — vacuum bleeder (recommended)
- Attach vacuum bleeder to the bleeder nipple of the furthest caliper. Crack the bleeder about 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
- Apply vacuum and watch the reservoir. Pump sufficient fluid through until clear fluid with no air bubbles comes out and the reservoir remains stable. Close the bleeder and torque to spec if required.
- Repeat for the next caliper in the sequence. Refill the master cylinder reservoir as required to avoid running dry.
- After all calipers are bled, perform several firm brake lever/pedal applications to seat pads and check for softness or sponginess. If soft, repeat bleeding on the circuit(s) with air.
Bleeding procedure — two-person pump-and-hold
- Have helper slowly depress the brake lever/pedal several times and hold at firm pressure.
- Open the bleeder and allow fluid/air to exit into tubing. Close the bleeder before the helper releases the lever/pedal.
- Repeat until only clear fluid appears and no bubbles are visible. Keep reservoir topped between cycles.
- Work through each caliper in the correct order. Finalize by pumping the lever/pedal to build firm pressure and checking for leaks.
Finishing up
- Wipe all fittings clean. Tighten bleeder screws to specified torque if known, or snug to manufacturer practice. Reinstall reservoir diaphragm & cap.
- Test brake lever/pedal feel — it should be firm with no sponginess. If spongy, re-bleed until firm.
- Inspect for leaks around lines, calipers, master cylinder, and banjo bolts. Torque mounting bolts if you removed wheels.
- Dispose of used brake fluid at a proper recycling facility.
Troubleshooting
- Persistent soft lever/pedal: air remains in the system or fluid contaminated. Do a full flush and bleed again; consider removing calipers slightly to compress pistons and free trapped air.
- Brake drag after bleeding: caliper piston may be over-extended or pads misaligned. Retract pistons slightly and check slide pins for proper movement.
- Leaks at banjo bolts or fittings: replace crush washers and torque to spec. If a line is damaged, replace the line rather than tightening repeatedly.
Maintenance intervals & owner tips
- Flush brake fluid every 1-2 years depending on storage & use. Severe riding conditions warrant more frequent changes.
- Inspect brake lines annually for chafing or cracking; replace if aged. Use OEM-quality lines or MotoSport-approved replacements.
- Keep spare bleeder caps on hand — a missing cap allows contamination into the system.
- If your King Quad sees heavy towing, riding in water, or competitive use, inspect pads & rotors more frequently and consider stainless steel braided lines for improved performance.
When in doubt, consult the Suzuki service manual for torque specs and any electronic-bleed procedures if your unit is equipped with additional systems. For parts, components & brake-specific items matched to the 2016 King Quad 750AXi, use MotoSport's catalog to ensure fitment and quality.
