AMA names U.S. team for 2011 FIM Junior Motocross World Championships in Cingoli, Italy
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has assembled a team of the best youth motocross racers in the world to represent the United States at the Federation International De Motocylisme (FIM) Junior Motocross Championships in Cingoli, Italy, on Aug. 13-14, 2011. The U.S. team will defend the World Championship it won last year in France.
Gabriel Jairala from San Antonio, Texas, and Derek Drake from San Luis Obispo, Calif., will compete in the 65cc class riding KTM 65s. Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green riders Mark Worth from Queen Creek, Ariz., and Chase Bell from Cairo, Ga., will race 85cc bikes. In the 125cc class, the U.S. will be represented by Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider Joey Savatgy from Thomasville, Ga., and Yamaha amateur support rider Chris Alldredge from Powell Butte, Ore.
Kawasaki Team Green Motocross Supervisor Ryan Holiday will coordinate the U.S. team's efforts as the team manager.
Marvin Musquin OUT 8-9 Weeks
Musquin hit the rear tire of Barcia's bike head on as Barica's bike lifted off the ground resulting in a bad crash for both riders. Musquin was immediately hauled off in the medical cart for further evaluation. The results showed a broken thumb and an estimated recovery time of 8-9 weeks.
"I am very disappointed in this race. I felt very confident today and was really excited about this season and racing in the U.S. I just recovered from an ACL injury and can't believe that I am hurt again. I am sad that it is not my fault and just a racing accident that I couldn't avoid. I will do my best to recover to 100% as soon as possible so I can return to racing and put on a good race for the fans," Musquin reported.
Josh Strang Takes GNCC Points Lead
FMF Makita Suzuki's Josh Strang moved into the points lead of the 2011 Grand National Cross Country Series after riding his FMF Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 to a strong second-place finish at the Rock Run GNCC in Patton, PA, this past weekend.
The FMF Makita Suzuki rider got off to a great start on the fast and rocky course, taking the lead immediately on his RM-Z450. Although the defending series champion struggled a little and dropped back to fifth place at one point, Strang eventually worked his way back into second position by the midway point of the race and held on for a podium finish.
After five rounds, Strang has a two-point advantage over second place in the series standings. He's looking forward to increasing that points lead at the upcoming Snowshoe GNCC.
Finland Announces 2011 ISDE Team
The ACU Trials and Enduro Committee are pleased to announce the ACU British Trophy and Junior Teams for the 86th ISDE to be held near Helsinki Finland during the second week of August this year.
The Trophy Team includes a former World Champion, former and current European Champions and current and previous British Champions. The Junior Team of under 23 years old are all promising Enduro riders.
The Trophy Team has been named as Paul Edmondson, Tom Sagar, Si Wakely, Greg Evans, Jason Thomas and Aaran Poolman. Non travelling reserve will be Jordan Rose. The E1 class slots will be filled by American based Jason Thomas who is performing excellently in GNCC competitions who gets his 3rd call up to the GB team and former four time World Champion Paul Edmondson who has been selected to represent his country for the 20th time since his first ISDE in 1986 and will be hoping to get another Gold Medal to add to his record breaking 16th Gold Medal achieved 2 years ago in Portugal. In the E2 class, places will all be filled by experienced yet young riders; Newtown based, Tom Sagar the former European and British Enduro Champion, Dorchester resident Si Wakely also a former European Champion, and popular Welshman Greg Evans current E2 European Champion. The E3 class place will be contested by Bristol based rider Aaron Poolman who will be hoping for a good first ISDE.
New bossman for Kawasaki Racing Team
Co-owner of the KRTE for the past two years, Thierry Chizat Suzzoni has become the sole owner of the team following the decision of Roger Pourcel to sever his links with the team for personal reasons.
Thierry, a 48 year old businessman from Aix en Provence has been involved in World motocross for six years but had previously remained in the shadows: "I came into motocross in 2005, when Jean Jacques Luisetti and myself created the CLS Kawasaki team."
For 2008 a new exciting opportunity arose together with Roger Pourcel, to run team KRTE which meant a move into the premier MX1 class. The factory Kawasaki effort could still be based out of former owner Jan De Groot's famous workshop facility in The Netherlands. "We prepared a multiple year programme and strategy together with Kawasaki Motors Europe and the Kawasaki factory in Japan. This was not always easy as we harmonized the differing habits and personalities within the team, but after two years we now feel that we have secured the future of the team and have a solid team structure," explained Thierry who incidentally has not missed a Grand Prix throughout his six years of involvement in the sport.
