Howdy y'all and welcome back to MotoSport.com Gear Head weekly observations! This is the spring break missing Gear Head Ryan Roberts back at it with all the takes from Round 9 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross from Birmingham, Alabama!

I had previously stated in last week's article that I thought this series was over, and I hate to report that I was probably right. Jett led this race wire to wire and never really received a challenge from Cooper Webb. I always think Jett has another gear that he could go to also if he needed too, and we are yet to see that gear used in Supercross. He has come to the realization that winning by thirty seconds or three seconds pays the same number of points, and why have a repeat of Dallas if he just needs to go 98% of what he has in the tank? This has become a dangerous scenario for the competition when it comes to Jett putting the hammer down on the rest of the field. There isn't anyone I see on Saturday nights that I think can give Jett a run for his money. It feels like the only thing that can stop the Jett train is Jett. This is what we saw in the nineties with Jeremy McGrath and I think we are primed for a repeat of that era.

Jett currently sits 13 points up on Cooper Webb so it is possible that Coop can come back and make this interesting but with 9 rounds down and 8 to go, he is going to have to start winning races now and not let this get further out of hand. Coop seemed to accept his future when on the podium he seemed like he knew it was the best he could do on the night. In the past, Coop would have been furious that he got second and didn't win but this new Coop seems to be accepting of second place. Maybe Chase Sexton can turn it around and make up the 20 point gap he is down, but I haven't seen anything to suggest that he will anytime soon.

In the 250 East class, Tom Vialle seems to be exerting his authority over that class and has won back-to-back races now. He is the first repeat winner in this series and has won in a fairly dominant fashion. The Pro Circuit Riders, Cameron McAdoo and Seth Hammaker, have been consistent on the podium in second and third, but they haven't been able to move up and challenge Vialle the last two races. I am not positive they have anything for Vialle but I think this race coming up in Indianapolis will officially set the tone for this series.

I will also add the hot take of someone needs to sit Haiden Deegan down and get him to think straight. I know he is only 18 and I don't think he is used to not winning, but going out and making enemies on the track will not allow you to win championships. In a field like this, you need friends and at this pace, Haiden will be out of friends on the track shortly. Just look at Jason Anderson and Justin Barcia the last few years and you can see where making enemies on the track lands you.

That is it folks, round 9 of the AMA Monster energy Supercross series is done and dusted. This is your favorite Gear Head Ryan Roberts checking out and remember kids, if you need anything for any bike, dirt or street, ATV, UTV, just hit up any Gear Head at MotoSport.com and we will get you hooked up!
