Electric is coming.

But, in the case of KTM, the 2020 SX-E 5 electric dirt bike has arrived with an eye on the future as the battery operated Motocross bike has a high seat height of just 698 mm reducible to 653 mm. An additional lowering kit allows for even further adjustability to a low of 556 mm which accommodates the youngest of riders.

The SX-E 5 features six power levels along with a modern frame of lightweight, high-strength steel and a lightweight subframe made of extruded polyamide reinforced by fiberglass. The frame also has two mounting positions allowing for 25 mm of seat adjustability. Those familiar with the KTM 50 SX will see the SX-E 5 shares most of the same plastics along with the same steel frame which ensures similar ergonomics as the gas powered version.

The included lithium ion battery, which has a two-year warranty, provides more than two hours of riding for casual or beginning riding and 25 minutes for fast racing. The bike does come with a multi-functional display that indicates remaining battery life as well as prompts for choosing the six different ride modes that offer different motor characteristics ranging from beginner to pro. Once exhausted, the battery recharges to 80 percent capacity in 45 minutes or fully in 70 minutes.

Additional specifications of the 2020 KTM SX-E 5 include:

  • Lightweight cast aluminum swingarm
  • 2-compound chain guide similar to full-size models
  • WP XACT Suspension
  • Hydraulic brakes
  • NEKEN tapered handlebars
